Position Summary
This position performs custodial duties involving cleaning and routine maintenance at multiple City facilities and adjacent grounds, operating equipment and setting up and cleaning up for meetings and events.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
Assists participants with special events, rentals and programs at a variety of City facilities and parks.
Sets up meetings, recreational activities, birthday parties and City events scheduled at several City buildings.
Sweeps, vacuums and mops floors; dust and cleans offices, restrooms, meeting rooms and other work areas; strips, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos carpets.
Operates City vehicles to transport equipment and supplies to various facilities and events around the City.
Cleans sidewalks and removes snow and ice; removes debris and other litter from building grounds.
Operates tools and electrically powered machines (i.e., propane/ electric buffers, Grout Hog, Kaivac and auto scrubbers (walk-behind & ride-on), etc.).
Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.
Qualifications
Minimum:
High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must have First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain within six months of employment. Must complete required NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 training within three months of employment.
Desired:
One year of prior job-related experience.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting rate of pay is $18.96 to $21.33 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. In addition, the City of Lenexa also offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

The Campus Facilities Management (CFM) team is seeking candidates to fill multiple Custodian II openings across the campus community. NATURE AND LEVEL OF WORK
As a Custodian II, you will perform routine, manual work utilizing knowledge of various custodial materials, equipment, methods, and procedures used in maintaining clean, neat, and orderly buildings. This role involves cleaning and maintaining multiple campus structures, including parking garages, providing specialized services to the Chancellor's residence, and offering emergency support to the Special Work Assignment Team (SWAT). Duties may extend to the maintenance of designated buildings, routine repair of fixed equipment and buildings, and occasional support for large moves or campus events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Care and cleaning of buildings, including parking garages, offices, classrooms, entryways, common areas, and restrooms.
* Floor maintenance activities such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing.
* Trash removal, dusting furniture, and cleaning windows.
* Snow removal through sweeping and shoveling.
* Ordering cleaning supplies and facilitating equipment repairs as needed.
* Setting up rooms for meetings, including arranging chairs, tables, and necessary equipment.
* May perform some building security duties, such as locking or unlocking doors and reporting damages and repair needs to appropriate staff.
* May periodically check and maintain building equipment, including pumps, motors, fans, heaters, etc.
* May provide emergency response support and/or assist with large moves and campus events.
* May be assigned to work in areas requiring special use of disinfectants, specialized cleaning techniques and sanitation procedures, or be required to use specialized cleaning equipment such as large sweepers or power washers.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

* Ability to read and write.
* A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions.

TITLE: Custodian
SALARY: $10.50-$15.50/hour (wage determined by years of relevant experience)
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 8 hours/day, 12 months/year (benefits-eligible)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Maintenance Supervisor, and/or Head Custodian
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal and Assistant Director of Operations
JOB GOAL: To provide all students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, pleasant, and smooth-functioning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
2. Shovel, plow, and/or sand walks and steps as appropriate.
3. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are unlocked and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
4. Raise the United States and Kansas flag at or before 8:00am on each school day, and lower it at or after 3:30pm.
5. Clean classrooms daily and dust furniture and woodwork.
6. Clean corridors after school each day, and/or during the day when their condition requires it.
7. Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
8. Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
9. Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
10. Perform such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, etc. to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
11. Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
12. Clean all whiteboards at least once a week.
14. Make minor building repairs.
15. Report major repair needs correctly and in an accurate and timely manner.
16. Maintain, on a regular schedule, all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
17. Report any damage and/or vandalism to school property immediately to the principal.
18. Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal.
19. Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, security systems activated, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. (This duty may be delegated)
20. Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment, and requisition needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian.
21. Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair, including replacement of bulbs, tubes, filters, etc.
22. Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
23. Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste while wearing necessary personal safety equipment.
23. Conduct periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
24. Cooperate with city and state inspectors involved in health, fire, and safety.
25. Perform routine janitorial duties as required.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
2. Good knowledge of maintenance methods, materials and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently.
3. Ability to understand and follow simple verbal and written directions.
4. Extensive janitorial experience, some of which shall have been at the level of the position.

TITLE: Custodian - Substitute
SALARY: $10.50/hour
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months/year
*This is an on-call position, so hours will vary. This position gives you the opportunity to have a flexible schedule.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor and/or Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide all students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, pleasant, and smooth-functioning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor to receive each day's assignment.
2. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
3. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
4. Shovel, plow, and/or sand walks and steps as appropriate.
5. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are unlocked and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
6. Raise the United States and Kansas flag at or before 8:00am on each school day, and lower it at or after 3:30pm.
7. Clean classrooms daily and dust furniture and woodwork.
8. Clean corridors after school each day, and/or during the day when their condition requires it.
9. Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
10. Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
11. Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
12. Perform such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, etc. to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
13. Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
14. Clean all chalkboards at least once a week.
15. Make minor building repairs.
16. Report major repair needs promptly to the principal.
17. Maintain, on a regular schedule, all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
18. Report any damage and/or vandalism to school property immediately to the principal.
19. Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal.
20. Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, security systems activated, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. (This duty may delegated)
21. Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment, and requisition needed replacements through the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian.
22. Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair, including replacement of bulbs, tubes, filters, etc.
23. Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
24. Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste while wearing necessary personal safety equipment.
25. Clean all filters--furnaces and/or air conditioner, at least every 30 days, or as required.
26. Conduct periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
27. Cooperate with city and state inspectors involved in health, fire, and safety.
28. Perform routine janitorial duties as required.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate, or any equivalent
combination of experience and training
which he provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
2. Good knowledge of maintenance methods, materials and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently.
3. Ability to understand and follow simple verbal and written directions.
4. Extensive janitorial experience, some of which shall have been at the level of the position.
