Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Custodian may work independently or as part of a custodial team to provide general cleaning and custodial care and support for assigned campus buildings, facilities, structures and adjacent areas and/or portions, like campus offices, classrooms, science laboratories, art rooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums, locker rooms, showers, restrooms, health and child care centers, student residences, patios, entryways, walkways, and workshops.
* Work assignments include cleaning and maintaining assigned areas, based upon the location of specific assignments: dusting and cleaning all surfaces; removing trash and recyclables; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and replenishing supplies; cleaning glass doors, windows, and blinds; removing gum and graffiti; cleaning furniture and upholstery; cleaning light fixtures and HVAC air diffusers; polishing woodwork and metal surfaces; cleaning interior and exterior stairwells, walkways, and elevators.
* Cleans and maintains campus floors, including sweeping, dry and/or wet mopping; stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing floors; vacuuming; spot and full cleaning of carpets; responding to custodial/cleaning emergencies; gathering and delivering trash and recyclables to areas of central aggregation.
* Safeguards assigned areas from unauthorized use and access by locking and unlocking doors and windows; arranging and setting up furniture, equipment, and related items; identify and organize necessary work materials and equipment, which may include loading and unloading cleaning supplies and materials; and operating and maintaining powered equipment, tools, supplies, and materials needed.

* Perform cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of buildings scheduled by the Facilities Management supervisory team. This includes, but is not limited to, dusting blinds, bulletin boards, drapes, doors, facility areas, fire extinguishers, fire extinguisher boxes, furniture, light fixtures, pictures, restroom fixtures, stair rails, vents, window ledges and sills; damp wipe and polish furniture; mopping, wet mopping, waxing and buffing floors including stairways, entrances, steps, and elevator cabs; polishing glass doors, glass partitions, kick plate door hardware, elevator doors, and drinking fountains; cleaning chalkboards and dry erase boards; washing windows; cleaning and sanitizing restroom fixtures, toilets, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions, floors, etc.; replace restroom supplies and ensuring toilets are clear of debris; wash countertops; and vacuuming carpeted areas, cushioned furniture, and elevator door tracks.
* Empty and wipe ashtrays, waste baskets, and trash receptacles and replace plastic liners; clean trash chutes.
* Use the provided cleaning supplies and equipment to keep the interior of the office building looking clean, disinfected, and professional. Operate and clean various equipment, including power-cleaning equipment, such as buffers, scrubbers, and extractors.
* Act on customer special requests for removal of debris, clean-up of spills, and similar customer needs quickly and with a professional manner. Perform specialized custodial work upon the work of the staff members and supervisor.
* Replenish soap and paper supplies to ensure all pantries and restrooms are fully stocked with the necessary sanitization items.
* Stock and clean supply rooms and service carts. All areas where custodial items are kept are expected to be organized and tidy. Assist in the delivery of campus custodial supplies.
* Assist in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
* Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
* Conserve energy: night shift personnel should turn on only those lights in the immediate work area; turn off lights when leaving offices, classrooms, laboratories, etc., unless otherwise directed; close all windows, unless otherwise directed; shut off all faucets and report leaky and/or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
* Report needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.

Preventative and Regular Maintenance
Responsible for and prioritizes the regular and timely maintenance and cleaning responsibilities of all areas of the property including the common areas, offices, outdoor grounds, parking lot and neighboring alley.
Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, scrub, mop, and vacuum as required throughout the common areas of the building including, but not limited to, stairwells, laundry room, lounge, community room, hallways, etc. and in offices and facilities.
Periodically strips and waxes floors. May steam-clean and/or shampoo carpets.
Regularly check the trash receptacles, emptying as needed, in all areas of the site, complying with municipal recycling guidelines as required.
Service, clean and supply restrooms in offices and facilities
Clean all laundry rooms including laundry room appliances.
Dust furniture, walls and equipment in offices and facilities.
Replace light bulbs throughout the building.
Remove weeds, plant bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs and maintain landscape.
Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events.
Keep janitorial supplies in stock and cleaning equipment in working order.
Perform routine maintenance tasks and make necessary repairs before they become urgent.
Transport supplies and various sizes of items which may include, but is not limited to, office furniture, banker's boxes of files, and office equipment between facilities.
Assist as needed and approved or assigned by supervisory staff.
Repairs and Problem-Solving
Perform minor repairs, such as patching walls, replacing light fixtures, and repairing doors and windows.
Repair broken locks, windows, and damage to walls and building structure immediately.
Ensure there is a Facility ticket number for each request for maintenance service before performing any request.
Safety and Compliance
Regulatory Compliance: The Custodian must strictly comply with and ensure staff compliance with all state, federal and local regulations.
Professional Behavior: Strictly maintain professional boundaries following established limits and guidelines for appropriate behavior with participants, ensuring a safe and ethical environment by clearly separating the professional role from personal interactions, and protecting the participant's privacy and dignity. Boundaries typically include but are not limited to personal disclosure limits, physical touch restrictions, and clear communication about the professional nature of the relationship.
Health and Safety: Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations to CLARE|MATRIX standards, OSHA, CAL-OSHA, and all regulatory requirements.
Record Keeping and Facility Contracts
Must gain and maintain knowledge of the Operations/Facility contracts to ensure compliance and utilization.
Teamwork and Communication
Communication: Work in collaboration with your team members. Collaborate with the Operations Manager, facility assistant, and maintenance technician. Respond to staff and participants in a professional and courteous manner.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, department heads, managers, directors, and senior management.
Staff Meetings: Participate in staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with supervisors, and other meetings as required.
