Key Responsibilities: Perform custodial duties as required by district standards Perform many diversified tasks each day to maintain the cleanliness and safe condition of the schools Operate custodial power equipment Assist in moving equipment and furniture as required Regular and on-time attendance required Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools Required Qualifications: Working knowledge and experience of custodial equipment, supplies, and proper cleaning procedures Preferred Qualifications: High School education or GED preferred Skills & Competencies: Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community Ability to work independently, under pressure and follow directions Ability to perform heavy manual labor as required Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff members Satisfactory work record Ability to communicate effectively Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Custodians work inside classrooms, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and offices, as well as outside maintaining school grounds Frequent use of cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and floor treatments requires proper safety precautions Exposed to high temperatures when working outside Requires long periods of standing and walking, often covering large areas of the school throughout the shift Frequently bends to clean floors, pick up trash, and access low areas Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and other cleaning activities require repetitive arm and hand movements Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds Equal Opportunity Employer Statement: Mesa Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination.
