A day in the life:
A Cleaner is responsible for basic cleaning, including cleaning of all common areas, restrooms, entrances, elevators, walkways, windows, furniture, fixtures, stairs, chairs, tables, telephones, drinking fountains, trashing, dusting, polishing, and other assigned items/areas. We have multiple shifts available as well as both full-time, part-time, and seasonal opportunities.
What you'll do as an Exceptional Team Member
Responsible for all basic cleaning
Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms, break rooms, and common areas
Empty trash and recycling bins, and dispose of waste properly
Cleaning includes sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors in all areas
Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums
Follow all health and safety regulations and company policies
Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to management
Performs additional duties as required, including attending to flooded areas, incidental spills, and related clean-up work for trash and restroom concerns

Pay Rate Information:
The Custodian position is a non-union/part-time position and starting pay is $18.40/hr. This position is eligible for step pay increases within our Non-Union Grade 1 Wage Scale. Top end of the current wage scale for this position is $23.31/hr. This position is approx. 19 hours per week. Working hours are Monday through Thursday - 4 hour shifts, Friday - 3 hour shift. Work shifts begin at 4:30 p.m.
Essential Job Functions:

Logging completed tasks or incidents in digital or paper systems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Agreement between the Livonia Public Schools School District and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO Local 118, Council 25.

Primary Responsibilities:
Use approved methods and materials in cleaning and caring for assigned facility.
Operate and maintain equipment such as; auto floor scrubbers, burnishing buffers, stripping machines and vacuums.
Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub and polish floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines.
Empty trash receptacles.
May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
General cleaning furniture, window sills, and walls.
Dust, wash walls, clean ceilings, and polish light fixtures.
Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas.
Clean/stock all restroom, janitorial closet and break rooms.
Record and document all cleaning functions on appropriate logs and report to Supervisor.
Perform light building maintenance duties as needed.
Report any major safety item for repair.
Snow/debris removal and salting of entryways
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education: High school diploma, GED or technical school certification
Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
0-6 months custodial/ janitorial experience using floor scrubbers, buffers, stripping machines.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Requires the ability to read and follow label instructions on cleaning supplies
Ability to follow basic verbal & written instructions.
Ability to pay close attention to detail.
Must have team aptitude and approach.
