**POSITION PURPOSE:** Within Academic Affairs, the main mission of Library Services is to provide and promote a full range of supportive, quality services to CSUB students, faculty, staff, and community members. Library staff strive to meet patron needs by making retrieval and check out of library material as convenient and timely as possible. We provide library patrons research, reserve, and check-out assistance, lend and borrow items from other libraries, assist students at our AV campus with their research needs, assist library users on the use of library machinery, and monitor and bill for library material not returned in a timely manner.
Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of Libraries, the Library Services Specialist II is responsible for performing various library circulation duties including but not limited to checking in/out library materials and providing assistance to library patrons. The incumbent serves as a resource for faculty, staff, students, and community, gain access to study spaces, and supervises the work of Student Assistants on duty. In addition, the incumbent assists with library opening and closing procedures as required including counting cash and securing the building. Schedule may vary, but typical work hours are Sunday to Thursday 5 pm to 1:30 am.
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:**
Circulation
* Understands library circulation operations with a comprehensive knowledge of policies and procedures and their relation to overall library functions and departments to perform duties.
* Performs service activities involved with checking in or out library materials and reserves using Circulation software. Updates statuses of library items as needed. Provides patron check out overrides as required.
* Provides basic Reference assistance in retrieving call numbers, materials, or searching for the availability of items, but refers patrons to other Library or campus departments and resources for additional assistance when appropriate.
* Assists patrons with inquiries and provides problem resolution. Responds to patron complaints about policy violations and conducts rounds as needed to ensure compliance.
* Aids and instructs patrons in the retrieval of Library materials and use of Library resources or equipment.

* Conducts rounds of the building to enforce library policy and safety, including notifying patrons on non-compliance with library policy, retrieving stray materials, checking study rooms for compliance to individual study room policies, and taking note of facilities issues.
* Contacts Campus Police, Facilities Management, Safety & Risk Management, and/or the Dean's Office in cases of emergency, building alarms, and disturbances.
* Performs yearly safety inspections of all levels of the library with a representative of Safety & Risk Management, communicates with library staff and faculty regarding safety corrections and submits completed corrections to Safety & Risk Management as remedied.
* Notes areas which need cleaning or additional supplies and notifies the Dean's Office, Campus Copiers and/or custodial personnel to have the situation(s) addressed.
Resource Sharing
* Print pull slips for requested materials.
* Retrieve and photocopy requested items.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
