Who You Are:
The Ideal candidate will have 2+ years relevant manufacturing experience operating machines. Glass industry experience preferred.
What You Will Be Doing:
As a Polisher (Machine Operator I), you will be responsible for operating a flat polisher/glass edging machine, as well as perform preventative maintenance on the machine.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):
Sets up and operates a single side straight-line glass-edging machine to polish glass or mirror edges.
Starts machine and places glass or mirrors on conveyor of machine.
Fabricates glass to the specification requested by the customer, and verifies program geometric dimension based off work orders received.
Moves glass from machine and wipe edges to remove polishing compound.
Requires the use of an overhead crane to lift and maneuver glass onto the machine.
Follows work instructions by reading labels to expedite the production process; understands and communicates paperwork and labels/picking list.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Transports materials including glass from one position/location to another in an effort to expedite the production process.
Utilize a tape measure to ensure product is within the product specifications
Strap glass to the carts and or trucks so they are safe for moving
Daily inspections - Look for any unsafe objects, check equipment, etc.
Skills You Bring:
MINIMUM SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS include the following:
Experience in a production or manufacturing environment; Glass industry is preferred (not required).
HEAVY LIFTING - Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to lift up to 150 lbs. with assistance.
Must be able to push weights greater than 150lbs with a team.
Must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
Must be able to follow instructions from Supervisor, Plant Manager and/or Branch Manager.
Ability to work in varied temperatures consistent with same climate conditions of the region in a non-climate controlled facility (Heat, Cold, humidity).
Experience using hoists and cranes a plus.

Essential Functions
Responsible for overall maintaining of a production line, including starting and stopping of all equipment (palletizers, carton makers, carton sealers, drop packers, injection, etc.) as applicable.

Maintain quality requirements in accordance with company standards; accurately filling out hourly inspection sheets based on overall production quality. Responsible for recognizing and reporting all quality defects immediately.
Ability to work in multiple areas of production with minimal supervision; perform relief duties when required
Ability to troubleshoot minor production equipment issues in all areas and collaborate with maintenance team as necessary.
Understanding of computer systems such as Oracle/MES or current order management system
Comprehension of line flow and manufacturing process to maximize through put

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Prior machine operator experience in a technical set up role, in a manufacturing environment.
Mechanical aptitude is a must, as well as the ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
Must be familiar with computer operated equipment.
Must be able to communicate technical information of machinery, i.e., speed, pressure, feed, torque.
Must be able to determine what acceptable machinery performance is and communicate the steps to bring machinery performance into standard.
Must be able to read and follow multistep procedures.
Must be able to use a caliper, micrometer, and a tape measure.
Must be able to read and understand measurements written in decimal form.
Ability to work while standing for long periods to include heavy lifting of material.
Can work successfully in a team environment and/or independently and is able to take direction from others.
Heavy lifting (up to 60 pounds) of materials, bending, and stooping will be required throughout shift assigned.

Tapes material onto cores.
Starts machine and observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular winding.
Moves levers to stop, start, and regulate speed of machine and to align material.
Sets anvils and blades, cuts cores and spacers.
Checks cuts for correct size and ensure edges of cuts are smooth. If edges are rough, make necessary adjustments to knife blades.
Watches material to ensure patterns stay in spec.
Disengages winding shaft and removes rolls of material.
Check materials pre, in process and postproduction using calipers and rulers.
Maintain neat and accurate machine reports.
Accurately pick raw material, return raw material, enter labor tracking and complete rolls into the ERP system.
Accurately label rolls for shipment, inventory or next process in line.
Operates slitter at maximum speed while slitting materials for maximum performance while maintaining quality.

Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Basic knowledge of bar-coding software, label printing software and the ability to enter data via keyboarding and/or by using scanning guns.
