Cytec Industries company history timeline

1993

The spin-off occurred on December 17, 1993, but its arrival did not evoke any sense of a new beginning.

The Fortier sulfuric acid plant was converted into a Regen unit in 1993, allowing the site to recover waste acid from a neighboring plant.

In 1993, Cytec Industries Inc. was spun off from the American Cyanamid Company to produce sulfuric acid, acrylonitrile and melamine.

1996

The aluminum sulfate business was the first to go, sold to GEO Specialty Chemicals, Inc. in mid-December 1996.

1997

The transaction, which included a plant in Pensacola, Florida, was completed at the end of January 1997 for approximately $100 million.

With the acquisition of Fiberite, Cytec's specialty materials segment accounted for approximately 40 percent of total operating profits for 1997.

1998

In October 1998 the company acquired The American Materials & Technologies Corporation (AMT) for roughly $30 million.

2004

In 2004 the Bayer Group was reorganized, resulting in the spin-off of a large portion of its chemicals division.

2005

The new company LANXESS was created and went public in 2005.

2011

In 2011, Cytec Industries was renamed Cornerstone Chemical Company.
