Dallas Observer company history timeline

1980

The Observer was started in October 1980 by partners Ken Kirk, Bob Walton, Jeff Wilmont, and Gregg Wurdeman as a weekly local arts and cinema review publication.

1985

There’s a chance that if you live around Dallas area, at some point in 1985, Jerry Cantrell helped remove asbestos from your school.

1987

In 1987, New York City-based Island Records released a compilation album called The Sound of Deep Ellum, highlighting bands that regularly played the neighborhood.

1991

In 1991, the Observer was bought by New Times Media.

2002

Acclaimed American rock band Wilco announced recently it would soon play some concerts to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its storied 2002 album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

2004

The White Rock Lake Museum has been at the Bath House Cultural Center since 2004.

2005

In 2005, New Times both acquired and adopted the corporate name of Village Voice Media.

2012

In September 2012, Village Voice Media executives Scott Tobias, Christine Brennan, and Jeff Mars bought Village Voice Media's papers and associated web properties from its founders and formed Voice Media Group.

2022
