About PRN Healthcare
Our story starts with a 21-year-old CNA named Pete Hietpas. Pete was diligently working in eastern Wisconsin with a variety of staffing agencies, but something was missing. He loved caring for his patients, but felt that staffing agencies were exchanging compassion for competitiveness. He was determined to change that. As a result, he started Nurses PRN in 1995 to become a model for the healthcare staffing industry - being competitive in the marketplace, yet still maintaining a compassionate heart.
Over the years Nurses PRN grew and evolved as a nationwide healthcare staffing company, and therefore wanted to be more inclusive to all valued healthcare professionals: nurses, allied health, locum tenens, CNAs, and more. This lead to the introduction of PRN Healthcare, which is inclusive of Nurses PRN and all of our other healthcare divisions.
Our mission to create authentic, meaningful relationships with our healthcare professionals helps us set them up for success in their dream assignment, whether that be a travel contract, local contract, or per diem shift. This is all driven by the simple idea that better care for our healthcare workers, leads to better patient care - and this is all supported by a dedicated internal staff.
Our company culture is strongly backed by faith-based values and activities, to remind us that our success provides us the opportunity to serve and give back to our communities. This is the spirit of caregiving. This is PRN Healthcare.

GPU Accelerated Bioinformatics Engineer
Prima Mente
Entry level job in San Francisco, CA
Prima Mente is a frontier biology AI lab. We generate our own data, build general purpose biological foundation models, and translate discoveries into research and clinical outcomes. Our first goal is to tackle the brain: to deeply understand it, protect it from neurological disease, and enhance it in health. Our team of AI researchers, experimentalists, clinicians, and operators is based in London, San Francisco and Dubai.
Role focus - GPU-accelerated bioinformatics
Architect, build, and own scalable production pipelines that process multi-omics data for AI model development, moving from hypothesis to patent-ready results in months, not years.
Key Tasks:
Design and implement GPU-native bioinformatics pipelines using Flyte and/or Nextflow) for multi-omics data processing at scale (1000+ samples)
Optimising cost and performance, leveraging GPU acceleration where it matters
Work with experimental and machine learning teams to confirm and refine computational findings, and to ensure processing aligns with model needs
Cloud infrastructure
Develop and manage specific external research collaborations with academic and industrial partners
Expected Growth
In 1 month you are deploying workflows on GPU-accelerated cloud infrastructure to process your own multi-omic experiments, while establishing relationships with AI/ML and wet lab teams to understand their requirements.
In 3 months you directly own multiple optimised GPU-native pipelines processing in the order of 1,000s of samples with high speed improvements and significantly reduced costs, generating publication and patent-ready results.
In 6 months your pipelines run in production as automatised as possible feeding AI model training daily, you're co-designing experiments with AI/ML engineers and you're leading technical execution on external collaborations with industrial and/or academic partners.
Who You Are
You want to redefine what's possible at the frontier of AI and biology. You're an engineer, not an analyst. You thrive pushing the boundaries of performance and efficiency and enjoy architecting the systems and making multiple fast technical decisions. You iterate and move fast.
We don't expect you to check every box. Strong applicants often have depth in some of these and interest in growing into others.
Ideal experience
Knowledge of GPU computing backbone, whether directly through GPU-accelerated bioinformatics (e.g., NVIDIA Parabricks, Clara, Rapids, etc.) or through the ability to identify GPU vs. CPU optimisation in other contexts
Operational software engineering skills: the ability to write high-quality code to be the backbone of our software stack.
Strong working knowledge with cloud computing environments, including but not limited to AWS and GCP
First-hand deep experience with at least 2-3 large omics types (genomics, transcriptomics, chromatin accessibility, DNA methylation, histone modifications profiling, etc.)
Experience with end-to-end tools used to process multi-omic data from raw data all the way to analytical outputs. Good working knowledge of workflow managers (e.g., Flyte, Nextflow, Snakemake).
Familiar with data wrangling, analysis, and visualisation libraries using Python (preferable), R or Julia.
Strong data engineering knowledge, including but not limited to experience with Spark, Hadoop, NoSQL.
Location
Based in San Francisco, US or London, UK. We support visa applications.
Culture Insight
What we are doing is extremely hard. Prima Mente is for great people. We are team players who appreciate challenges, want to be hands-on, and thrive on curiosity by throwing away assumptions. Prima Mente operates with a flat organizational structure. We gain and share knowledge by contributing to multiple opportunities. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence.
