SUMMARY
Family Service League is seeking a full-time Prevention Specialist for the Prevention Resource Center in Bay Shore. The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for developing new community substance abuse prevention coalitions. The Prevention Specialist will provide training and technical assistance services to community-based organizations, community champions and coalition members to reduce the impact of alcohol and drug use and abuse throughout Nassau and Suffolk communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Prevention Specialist will assist in the development of new community coalitions to prevent underage drinking and substance abuse.
Attend and facilitate at existing coalition meetings.
Initiate or facilitate five activities quarterly which will aid in the recruitment of stakeholders for the purpose of coalition capacity building.
The Prevention Specialist will develop and launch public information and social media campaigns to educate, promote and foster community health and wellness initiatives.
Cooperatively address substance abuse and the consequences of use and abuse in the coalition community in collaboration with existing treatment and prevention providers and community leaders.
Provide training and technical assistance in the planning and implementation of environmental strategies consistent with the needs of the community.
Develop needs assessments in an identified community, an action plan, a logic model and communication plans for coalitions.
All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required in Education, Social Work, or related field, Masters preferred.
At least 1 year of relevant experience at the community level required.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
Candidate must possess a valid Driver's License and own or have unlimited access to a reliable car to drive throughout Nassau and Suffolk. Mileage reimbursed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional travel to Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and/or Washington DC with overnights required.

Qualifications
One to two years' experience working with high school and/or middle school youth. Experience with youth-led prevention preferred.
Valid Ohio Driver's License.
Ability to obtain Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant certification within 18 months of hire.
High degree of creativity and self-motivation are required.
Experience in developing programming and leading youth in programming development is preferred.
Proven organizational, leadership, problem solving and public speaking skills necessary.
Excellent writing skills.

Under the supervision of the Director, the HIV Testing and Prevention Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the program's HIV/HCV testing and sexual health education activities. Staff must be flexible to work outside of traditional work hours to accommodate community events. Staff is also responsible for the coordination of our “At-Home” HIV Testing Program, and developing a team of volunteers to assist with prevention programming. Position is Part Time at 30 hours, with potential to increase to full time.
Qualifications:
Two years of relevant work experience.

Have documentation of completing Rhode Island Qualified Professional Test Counselor training, or willing to complete training and certification within first month of employment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Substance Use

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
Adhere to consumers' confidentiality
Meet all documentation requirements, per agency policies and program guidelines
Maintain relevant and necessary documentation to meet statistical, fiscal, and service provision requirements of the agency, inspecting for accuracy
Work collaboratively with other involved service providers and stay informed of current area resources and services
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with school personnel
Plan and conduct all group services, following proven effective strategies for substance use prevention
Provide education and skill building relevant to substance use prevention to classroom participants
Maintain accurate program data and statistical information
Travel to schools and other community sites using own vehicle
Maintain a valid driver's license in the state of Ohio with insurance coverage.
Participate in individual development of professional continuing education by reading, attending workshops, classes and other mandated or voluntary training opportunities relevant to job responsibilities
Participate in monthly group staffing with all prevention staff
Participate in an annual evaluation and on-going weekly supervision
Participate in the agency's CQI process
Participate in on-going Staff Development Program
Participate, when requested, in the agency's on-going public relations and community information and education events
Maintains regular and reliable attendance
May be involved in the planning, organization, and implementation of special events or department specific projects or seasonal program changes.
In times of need, may be asked to complete related duties other than those indicated above as assigned by their supervisor.

The Substance Use Prevention Specialist position does not require licensure.
The Substance Use Prevention Specialist must, however, work towards certification as a certified Ohio Prevention Specialist, following the guidelines determined by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
