Roles and Responsibilities: Protection of Life & Property * Patrols the facilities both inside and outside. * Remains highly visible during patrols * Is observant and engages with suspicious persons at the facility. * Assists patients, visitors and staff as needed * Locks and unlocks areas as prescribed or as requested * Maintains continuous contact via phone or radio with subordinates and management * Responds in a timely manner to all calls. * Submits a concise, clear, accurate and complete incident report in a timely manner * Completes daily security log. * Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner on a daily basis. * Escorts individual in a timely manner as needed to ensure their safety. * Is observant for unauthorized activities. * Uses proper lifting techniques during work tasks to prevent lifting injuries. Performs Fire and Safety Checks * Inspects fire extinguishers and other safety equipment * Inspects various directional and warning signs about the buildings and reports any need for replacement. * Inspects exit signs and reports any bulb replacement needed. * Keeps well informed and conducts all fire, safety and disaster drills. Reports results to supervisor upon completion. * Investigates incident of injuries involving visitors and ensures a report is prepared. * Takes proper action to correct safety and security shortcomings noted. * Check the outer portion of the buildings for safety hazards. * Inspects all elevators (where applicable), fire exits, and interior escape stairwells to ensure that there are no obstructions and are well lighted. Reports any discrepancies. Enforces all Federal, State and Local Laws, as well as all hospital Policies and Procedures * Conduct preliminary investigations of complaints and incidents. * Answers all disturbances or criminal offense calls as requested. * Uses diplomacy to insure all persons are not offended or alienated. * Monitors compliance with CARS, OASAS, and CHS safety and security procedures. Facility Equipment Maintenance * Basic mechanical ability to make minor repairs. * Analyze malfunctions and identify staff that can make repairs. * Attempts to repair before calling for assistance when appropriate. Miscellaneous Activities * Inspection of facility lighting. * Inspection of doors and stair wells. * Security of entrance doors. * Interdepartmental support. Education and Development * Completes all mandatory education requirements. * Attends departments, onsite and off-site in-service as required. * Attends department meetings.
