Responsibilities
The incumbent will teach a total of five courses in the general area of Religion in East Asia. Area of specialization is open with respect to geographical regions (China, Japan, or Korea), historical periods, and religious traditions, but expertise in the academic study of religion and the ability to teach at multiple curricular levels are essential. Teaching responsibilities for the year include five courses. The incumbent would be expected to teach two sections of an introductory-level course on East Asian Religions, two intermediate-level survey courses related to religion in China, Japan, or Korea, and as a fifth course either a topical course on East Asian Religions or an advanced undergraduate seminar on East Asian Religions.
Qualifications
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected during academic year 2026-2027). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable. The Department of Psychology at Baldwin Wallace University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall of 2026. All areas of specialization will be considered, yet special consideration will be given to applicants with the ability to develop community partnerships and/or service learning opportunities involving students. We are primarily a teaching University and are looking for applicants with well-developed teaching skills. Faculty members teach a total of 21-24 credit hours per academic year. The successful applicant will be expected to teach applied courses that engage students in the Greater Cleveland community. This could be through a service learning course, internship course, or applied research course in the field. They would also be expected to teach any of our required courses, including Intro to Psychology, Statistics, SPSS, Research Methods and Thesis, in addition to a lower level topical seminar. They also may be asked to develop new courses in their area of specialization.
The Psychology Department currently has 7 full-time members representing the main sub-disciplines in the field. The Psychology major is one of the largest majors on campus, and the department is housed in the Neal Malicky Center for the Social Sciences, which has dedicated research space for human research. Faculty members involve undergraduate students in their research program. The successful candidate will engage in an active program of applied research (either on campus or off campus with a healthcare/nonprofit/ community agency partner) where undergraduates will be able to improve their skills and make meaningful contributions.
All faculty members serve as academic advisors and participate in a shared governance system.
