Under supervision from the Residential Operations Custodial Supervisor, performs a wide variety of cleaning and unskilled building maintenance tasks which include heavy lifting activities inside and outside the College's student residential facilities. These facilities include residence halls, affinity houses, and college-owned Greek houses. Maintains cleaning and bathroom supply inventories. Notes machine and furniture repair and replacement needs and completes appropriate work request forms and damage reports. Implements recycling procedures. Communicates effectively with students, answering questions about relevant Residential Operations policies and procedures.

* On a daily basis: cleans and mops all common area floors, stairways, public restrooms, kitchen and snack-preparation areas, laundry rooms, study rooms, and lounges; vacuums carpeted hallways and common areas; washes windows in common areas; completes damage reports for common areas.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The custodian performs general custodial duties in accordance with department procedures as well as: assists in event services support, summer cleaning and maintenance programs, furniture moves, and other departmental, program, and institutional support consistent with general nature of job duties. Custodial workers will act as independent entity in the maintenance and care of campus buildings as assigned while being a team member for group tasks as assigned. This position collaborates with other facilities staff, and a variety of offices to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the facilities department. Equipment Used:

Phillips Academy seeks an evening custodian to clean and maintain Academy buildings by performing routine and specialized cleaning of academic and non academic spaces and maintain a clean, safe, sanitary and attractive environment.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday 3pm to 11:30pm plus overtime as required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Sweeping, mopping, dusting/washing furniture, vacuuming floors and surfaces and restocking restroom and kitchen areas.
Responsible for sanitizing bathroom surfaces, fixtures, and food handling areas.
Emptying trash and recycling receptacles and moving the trash and recyclables to the appropriate pick-up points.
Strip, wax and burnish floors using power floor machines, as well as operate heavy-duty wet pick-up machines to remove liquids form floor surfaces.
Requirements:
Valid driver's license, personal vehicle for on-campus transportation required and full background check required.
Must be able to work well with the general school community.
Must be able to perform all aspects of custodial services.
Be able to respond to changing and/or short notice custodial service requirements.
Prior floor care and cleaning experience preferred.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to carry out the duties of the position.
When emergencies and/or extreme weather conditions occur, the functions of this job may be deemed essential, and employee must report to work and/or remain on duty during their regularly scheduled work hours or the work hours designated by their supervisor. Supervisor will inform the employee when the functions are essential.
