The Department of Geology and Geophysics is searching for a person to serve as Technical Support Person. This includes supporting and maintaining the networks, hardware and software as well as planning of new purchases. Serve as technical liaison between the Department, Information Technology Services and outside affiliates. Supervise students when needed and available.
Duties include:
45% Provide technical support for the computers and computer networks in the Department of Geology and Geophysics to approximately 30 faculty and staff and 60 graduate students. This includes on-site support, network support, planning of new hardware and software purchases, maintenance of client server applications and licenses, hardware and software installation and backup, operating system configuration, upgrades and system backup over a range of platforms, build and/or maintain Windows file and print servers, Linux web servers, and other types at the discretion of Department.
20% Responsible for maintenance of computer laboratories and computer enhanced teaching spaces. Prepare a monthly report of activities to direct supervisor.
10% Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventory of all electronic (computers, projectors, etc) equipment in the Department and for conducting the annual inventory of said equipment. Assist with entire departmental inventory process. Also, responsible for sending used equipment to surplus and following ITS rules as needed for sending computers to surplus.
