Project Overview
We are seeking detail-oriented Independent Contractors to support a high-impact project at the intersection of biomedical data and AI model evaluation. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that large volumes of scholarly information are accurate, correctly structured, and reliable. Your expertise will directly support the quality and trustworthiness of advanced technology and global research databases used in real-world applications.
Scope of Work (Deliverables)
As an Independent Contractor, you will manage your own workflow to provide the following high-quality deliverables:
Metadata Validation: Review biomedical journal articles and validate structured metadata within specialized data management systems.
Funding & Grant Identification: Independently analyze English-language articles to identify and record research funding acknowledgments, including government and private grant identifiers.
Technical Linking: Identify and link related citations such as errata, retractions, and dataset DOIs (e.g., GenBank, Dryad, Figshare) to ensure data integrity.
Classification: Apply correct status indicators to citations, filtering non-citable items and ensuring compliance with established data standards.
Output Milestones: Manage your time and processes to meet a project throughput target of approximately 35 citations per hour while maintaining a high accuracy rate.
Pre-Engagement Requirements (Mandatory)
Due to the nature of the data systems involved, the following security and credentialing steps are mandatory for all contractors:
Tier 1 Federal Background Check: Retention is contingent on passing a Tier 1 federal background check for non-sensitive, low-risk data. This requires no felony convictions or pending legal proceedings.
Fingerprinting: The process takes approximately 30 days and includes mandatory in-person fingerprinting at an approved local office. The cost of this background check is covered.
In-Person Credentialing: Once the background check is approved (expected between Jan 25 and Feb 15, 2026), you will be required to travel in person to Bethesda, Maryland to collect an official work badge from a federal facility. This is a mandatory step for system access; travel requirements should be considered before applying.

Expertise: High school diploma required (Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Library Science, or related fields preferred). Previous experience in data entry, metadata review, or structured data validation is expected.
Technical Proficiency: Ability to navigate scientific journal articles, XML-formatted citations, and publisher websites independently.
Equipment: Contractors must provide their own computer, high-speed internet, and a PIV card reader.
Security Clearance: Must be able to pass a government background check to obtain the required security badge and system access.

As part of the KanCare Clearinghouse Program, the Transaction Processing Associate III (ES) will perform a variety of duties. The position is responsible for gathering thorough documentation and entering information into various systems
**Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:**
Analyze the initial applications and reviews (for Family Medical programs) and supporting documentation provided by applicants to determine eligibility for federal and state medical assistance. Investigate the applicant circumstances thorough the use of available computer systems (Databases, registries, and informational deposits) researching records provided by the applicant and their contacts to provide the information about the household income, resources, and expenses upon which the eligibility determination is made.
Entering household information and authorizing eligibility within the Kansas Economic and Enforcement System (KEES). Professional completes determinations using State and Federal regulations to determine eligibility for medical benefits based on financial and non-financial criteria. Document the eligibility decision in the electronic case journal and send appropriate system-based and manual correspondence to customers and representatives explaining the results of the eligibility determination and information regarding appeal rights.
Eligibility Professionals are expected to use knowledge of State eligibility processes, policies, and procedures governing managed care enrollment to communicate with consumers regarding a variety of issues.
Attend training as assigned to develop and enhance current understanding of Kansas Medicaid eligibility programs. Through training and experience, begin to develop expertise in additional areas of determination categories.
Maintain with up-to-date knowledge of regulations, policies, and guidelines.
**Preferred Skills or Knowledge:**
Knowledge of Medicaid and managed care programs

Key Responsibilities
