Work involves entering, verifying, researching, coding, correcting, or retrieving information from source documents and/or computer systems with a high level of accuracy. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
1. Operates computer in entering, verifying, deleting, and retrieving data from police field reports.
2. Performs a variety of customer service functions including answering telephones, fax and e-mail requests, mail inquiries and requests, and assists both internal and external customers in person.
3. Performs miscellaneous clerical tasks such as filing and searching of reports, preparing documents for electronic files, copying, shredding and dissemination of requested information by any other means established by the Department that is lawful or established by policy.
4. Compiles information in response to subpoenas, judge's orders, media, and Freedom of Information requests within appropriate guidelines and inquiries and aids and/or provides direction in completion of forms.
5. Maintains and updates manual and computerized files.
6. Verifies status of warrants and wanted persons entered in the State and Federal criminal justice systems.
7. Prepared reports in RMS related to police incidents.
8. Performs entry of time sensitive information into LEADS system.
9. Collects fees for fingerprints and reports and balances receipts daily.
10. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of: office terminology and procedures, the operation of office equipment and machines and personal computers. Knowledge of MS Office Suite or other word processing, spreadsheet and data base software standard that may be adopted by City departments. Knowledge of business English, spelling and math. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of communications, files and documents. Ability to perform moderate physical labor and in coordinating and organizing a variety of activities.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. One (1) year of experience in office clerical work with experience in use of a personal computer, the MS Office Suite, and governmental software or any equivalent combination and experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with extended periods of walking, standing, lifting, bending, climbing ladder, lifting weight overhead, or other physical activities including moderate lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs. Many tasks may have set deadlines and involve volume processing. Some driving may be involved.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Illinois Driver's License
LEADS Certification within 6 months of hire.
Annual CPR training/recertification.
Ability to learn and understand the requirements under the Freedom of Information Act.
