The F.I. Proctor Foundation is hiring a new team member to join our fast paced, collaborative team studying infectious/inflammatory eye diseases and child health in the U.S. and internationally. The Proctor Foundation is one of the leading research centers in the world for the global elimination of trachoma (the leading infectious cause of blindness). Research projects include cluster and individually randomized trials that involve domestic and international collaboration. The Research Data Analyst will be asked to lead database and electronic data capture system design, data processing, statistical analyses, and provide assistance with grant writing and publications.

We are looking for a team member to work with faculty members to conduct statistical analyses in the context of large, cluster randomized trials, and to summarize results through data visualization and other formats. Data analysts at Proctor play an integral role in designing new research studies (including international clinical trials), design and manage databases for data collection, provide basic training and support in statistical and data-related principles to residents, fellows and other employees. Analysts also contribute to research grants, statistical analysis plans, and manuscripts. The new member will join a large team of more than 10 data scientists at Proctor and will have the opportunity to contribute to large studies that implement state-of-the-art in clinical trial methods, work flows, and analysis, such as: real-time electronic data capture, transparent and reproducible research methods (e.g., computational notebooks, git version control), interactive figures, and reports, We are interested in applicants who show an interest in clinical research and a desire to contribute to the state of knowledge on the prevention, treatment and correlates of disease. All team members at Proctor must be able to communicate effectively, multitask, problem-solve, and apply creative solutions to new and unexpected situations with limited supervision. This position may include travel to Africa on an annual basis.
Department Description


The F.I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology at UCSF is committed to engaging in research activities and providing state-of-art patient care that address infectious and inflammatory disease that cause blindness. The mission is the prevention of blindness worldwide through research and teaching focused on infectious and inflammatory eye disease. The Proctor Foundation currently has >10 active field trials funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.


Required Qualifications



BA/BS with a coursework in quantitative analysis (i.e. data science, biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, statistics or related field and 1-2 years relevant experience and/or equivalent experience / training Demonstrated proficiency with at least one statistical software language (R preferred) Strong writing/communication skills Knowledge of various study designs and implementation strategies Knowledge of database management Experience with electronic data collection



Preferred Qualifications



Graduate degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related field and two to three years of experience in practical data analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with electronic data collection Experience with R markdown and computational notebooks

+ Conduct research in the field of cloud and data to integrate and implement training concepts and strategies, to provide recommendations on the applicability of emerging educational technology or methods for improving Signal School instruction, and to recommend solutions to training problems and issues.
+ Conduct "Classroom Observations" and provide results to the COR/TD Chief.

+ Review and suggest textbooks and other educational materials.

+ Assess and discuss the course of study/curriculum standards with school staff.

+ Work in a collaborative environment; work with other schools, institutions, or agencies - Government, DoD, USA, Industry, Academia, or Foreign Government - to identify and implement new information applicable to specific courses (or lessons), as determined by the COR or the Signal School.

+ Maintain functional cloud and data expertise by fostering cooperation with other research organizations within the government, industry, and academia to improve the quality of instructional and research activities. Serves on collaborative faculty committees, work groups, and task forces to develop strategies for data management operations and education initiatives within the Signal School. Maintains professional relationships with senior members of academia, public and private sector officials, for purposes of maintaining professional currency and contributing to the continuing development of leader development doctrine and curriculum.

+ Possess at a minimum a Masters in Science Degree from a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

+ Possess Cloud and Data certifications with AWS Solutions Architect Professional or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional or Microsoft Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.

+ Have at least five years management experience or equivalent on similar government instructional contracts.

Leidos is seeking a full-time Data Analyst/Research Scientist to support the Naval Health Research Center, San Diego, CA. The candidate will provide statistical and analytical support for research to modernize the existing U.S. Navy Search and Rescue (SAR) database, examine gaps in en route care (ERC), and assess outcomes following limited duty status; plan and perform statistical analyses for research projects with complex study designs; consult with team members to derive an in-depth understanding of the hypotheses and experimental approaches; exercise independent judgment in the resolution of analytical problems while working in a team environment.

Due the COVID-19 pandemic, employees may be able to work from home during periods of greater infection risk. Longer term, this position will be required to be on-site at the Naval Health Research Center at least 3 days per week.

Primary Responsibilities

+ Provides statistical guidance and support to the Principal Investigator and other team members.

+ Performs data manipulations and statistical analyses using SQL, R, and/or SAS. Conducts various types of analyses using logistic regression, analysis of variance, survival analysis, multilevel modeling, and other techniques as required.

+ Performs data manipulations and statistical analyses using military medical records to identify health trends.

+ Maintains meticulous records of data analysis procedures and findings.

+ Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.

Basic Qualifications

+ Master's degree in statistics or relevant social science field (e.g., epidemiology, public health, psychology) with heavy quant focus and at least 2 years of significant research experience with large, complex medical records datasets

+ Knowledge of statistics and R and/or SAS programming.

+ Experience with manipulation of large datasets and databases.

+ Knowledge of statistical techniques for handling missing data.

+ Knowledge; analysis of variance, including repeated measures; logistic regression; analysis of variance; survival analysis; multilevel modeling

+ Ability to be a self-starter and work independently as well as in a team. Ability to plan and prioritize work.

+ U.S citizenship required

+ Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one

Preferred Qualifications

+ Demonstrated familiarity with the Military Health System Data Repository and/or other large complex military databases

+ Demonstrated experience preparing military research documents, including military data-sharing agreements and IRB protocols
