Our approach ensures precision-driven decision-making, which enables target drug discovery, biomarkers, translational, clinical, and business strategies, reinforcing HAYA as a leader of next-generation biopharma. What's in it for me? At HAYA, you won't just analyze data - you'll help shape the future of RNA-based therapeutics. This is a unique opportunity to apply your scientific expertise to uncover novel biology in the non-coding regulatory genome and translate those discoveries into real therapeutic potential. You'll be part of a deeply collaborative and forward-thinking team, working at the intersection of data science, functional genomics, and drug discovery. • Senior Data Scientist - SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (Little Italy)

    Motionworks International

Data scientist job in San Diego, CA

Senior Data Scientist - Urban Mobility and Location Intelligence On-Site (3+ days / week) - SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (Little Italy) About Us Motionworks is a leader in population intelligence-providing past, present, and predictive insights on how the total population moves throughout the physical world. We transform billions of GPS traces, POI databases, and behavioral signals into actionable insights for retailers, advertisers, urban planners, and transportation agencies across North America. Our Population Intelligence Platform tackles one of the hardest problems in data science: inferring population-level behavior from sparse, noisy, messy location data. We don't have the luxury of clean datasets-we work with terabytes of real-world GPS traces where some data is good, some is not, and the signal often hides in the noise. Job Summary We're hiring a Senior Data Scientist to lead methodology development for our core population modeling systems. This is not a data engineering role-we have engineers who productionize your work. This is an applied research and modeling role where you'll design, defend, and validate statistical models that turn observed travel behavior from millions of devices into robust population-level insights. At the end of the day, we need results, not just research. Your work will directly shape how we measure foot traffic, predict travel patterns, and distinguish meaningful signals from noise at national and international scale. You will be tasked with: Designing and validating Bayesian inference models to extrapolate observed location data to unobserved populations Developing methods to distinguish personal travel from commercial delivery patterns in ambiguous GPS traces Building statistical frameworks for handling varying data quality and penetration rates across geographies Creating defensible models for trip purpose inference, stay-point detection, and behavioral segmentation Writing concise technical documentation to explain methodology to internal stakeholders and clients Prototyping approaches that engineering teams can translate into production pipelines (Python, SQL, or other cloud-native tools) Recommending new data acquisitions and validation techniques to improve model performance Required Qualifications and Skills 8-10 years of applied experience working with large-scale location, mobility, or behavioral data (OR Master's/PhD + demonstrated applied work in transportation/retail analytics) Proven experience at scale with messy, real-world datasets-hundreds of millions of records, imperfect data quality, sparse observations Deep statistical foundations: Can derive likelihood functions, explain model assumptions, defend methodological choices with mathematical rigor Bayesian inference expertise: Experience with hierarchical models, prior specification, and uncertainty quantification-critical for extrapolating from sparse observations to population-level insights and handling varying data quality across geographies Strong technical skills: Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, statsmodels, PyMC or similar) and SQL for complex queries and data exploration in BigQuery/Spark environments Domain intuition: Understanding of how people move through cities-even if you discover patterns empirically, you should recognize when results align with or contradict transportation theory Ideal Background Experience at a technology company working on mobility/logistics problems at global scale Familiarity with travel behavior concepts (trip chaining, mode choice, origin-destination modeling) GIS/geospatial analysis skills (PostGIS, H3, spatial joins) Exposure to travel survey data (NHTS, household travel surveys) Salary Range $200k-$240k Location San Diego, California (Little Italy) Benefits Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents First year of employment gives two weeks of PTO, four weeks thereafter 14 holidays and flex holidays 401(k) plan Employee equity Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored work visas now or in the future. Motionworks does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, gender identity, national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor.

Data scientist job in San Diego, CA

Job Description At AoPS, data sits at the heart of how we grow and deliver our mission. We serve tens of thousands of students around the world, generating data about how families discover us, how students learn, and how our operations scale. Yet, like our curriculum and teaching, the true value of our data comes from how well we can translate it into actionable insight. AoPS is unique because it brings together academics, operations, and technology under one roof. We design our own curriculum, run physical academies, deliver online courses, and build the platforms that power it all. This created a rich and complex data environment--one that grew organically as the business grew and we are working on creating a more cohesive stack so every business line runs on the same system. Your job will be to turn raw data into clear, actionable insights, while proactively identifying areas for improvement. We are hiring a Data Scientist to support our Academics department and course experience team with learning research, advanced analytics, and experimentation. In this role, you will bridge the gap between the data that our curriculum developers and customers generate and the evidence we need to improve learning outcomes, instructional design, and student experience. You will own analytic frameworks, build statistical and machine learning models, and collaborate closely with curriculum developers, product teams, and senior academic leadership. The Data Scientist (Academics) will: Take ownership of learning analysis and applied research for the Academics department, ensuring analyses, models, and data tools are accurate and aligned with strategic goals. Partner with stakeholders to translate academic, curriculum, and product questions into testable hypotheses, measurable outcomes, and business decisions. Work with the data team to define, govern, and validate the metrics, features, and data structures needed to support consistent, science-driven analyses. Use SQL and Python to power analyses, modeling, reproducible research, and data-driven recommendations. Proactively investigate patterns and anomalies in learning data to uncover meaningful trends, identify drivers of student outcomes, and separate actionable insights from background noise. Champion data literacy and effective analytic practices across the organization. Completes other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned. The ideal candidate has: 2-4 years of experience in data science, applied statistics, quantitative research, or similar analytical role with a track record of driving meaningful impact. Proficiency in Python for data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning (using packages like pandas or polars for data manipulation, scikit-learn or statsmodels for model development, and PySpark or Dask for distributed computing). Experience using tools and best practices for reproducible research (e.g., version-controlled analysis, environment management, documented workflows) and with MLOps to ensure analyses and models are stable, repeatable, and maintainable. Strong understanding of concepts relevant to learning research, such as experimental design, hypothesis testing, feature engineering, regression modeling, causal inference, clustering, and evaluating data quality in educational or behavioral datasets. Experience using SQL data warehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery to gather and transform data for analysis. We use Redshift and dbt. Experience using data visualization or BI tools like Lightdash, PowerBI, Tableau, or Looker. We use Lightdash. Excellent communication skills with the ability to gather requirements from stakeholders, prioritize potential projects, and translate complex quantitative findings into actionable insights for the academics team. Why Join AoPS: This is a hybrid full-time position based at our headquarters in San Diego, CA. The full salary range for this position is 137.8k - 169.6k. Here are some things you can look forward to: Impact: Transform learning data into evidence-based insights that help us create more effective courses and better outcomes for the next generation of problem solvers.
