Under general supervision, responds to an processes crime scenes in the City of Detroit. Serves as a support service to the Detroit Police Department; arrival to the crime scene occurs when the scene is secured and preserved by the responding uniform officers. Examples of Duties * Identifies, evaluates, collects, and properly preserves all evidence collected from the crime scene including, but not limited to proper chain of custody of the evidence, including latent prints, and maintains the proper custody chain. * Measures locations and distances of evidence, victims, and other important landmarks utilizing a variety of equipment; both manual and automated. * Prepares sketches based on measurements and location of collected evidence atcrime scenes. * Photographs crime scenes, locations, victims, perpetrators, related evidence and performs general overall photography in such a way as to show the viewer the entire crime scene in neutrality. * Enters the collected evidence into the DPD Tracker System. * Develops latent fingerprints on a variety of surfaces at the sceneand items processed in the C.S.S office using fingerprint powders, chemicals and alternate light sources. * Testifies in the District courts, State courts, and occasionally in the Federal Court System regarding the nature and appropriateness of work performed. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or GED. with successful completion of coursework in biology, chemistry, physical science, and algebra. Provides transportation for TB patients to Texas Center for Infectious Disease, Chest Clinics as assigned per supervisor. Documents appropriately on medication Toxicity Sheet (TB206/206-A). Records problems or changes a patient may be having with TB medication. Is familiar with TB medication and side effects. Screens phone calls for nurses and assists X-Ray tech as needed. Prepares reports as assigned by supervisor. Maintains refrigerator temperature log. Knowledge of medical terminology. May be required to work other than normal or scheduled hours including weekends and holidays. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Graduation from a high school or equivalent (GED). Certified/Registered Medical Assistant in Texas. Certificates, Licenses, and Registration: Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license Must be able to be insured by the County's insurance carrier Immunization/TB Screening Requirements: Employees may be required to receive immunizations recommended by the ACIP, ACP, and TDH based on anticipated disease exposure (e.g. hepatitis B or rabies vaccines) TB skin testing may be required. The Medical Technologist will work with various laboratory equipment and technologies, ensuring that all procedures comply with established protocols and regulations. Ultimately, the Medical Technologist contributes to the overall quality of care provided to patients in the healthcare facility.
