Davis Health System company history timeline

1907

In 1907, the College, through the efforts of its former President, Marshall C. Allabens[?], became the joint property of the Northern and Southern Presbyterian Churches, it, prior to that time being owned and controlled by the Southern Church alone.

1911

In July, 1911, the Senator announced that he would provide by will for the College at least $100,000.

1916

1920

Davis School of Nursing In May of 1920, the hospital established the School of Nursing with only three ladies in the freshman class.

Beginning in 1920 In 1920, Doctor James Davis realized his boyhood dream with the opening of Carpenter-Davis Hospital.

1925

A Leader in the Medical Community On December 17, 1925, Davis Hospital moved from its South Center Street location to a handsome, new building on West End Avenue.

1955

Unfortunately the largest and most significant addition of a diagnostic clinic was completed in September 1955, just three months after his death.

1966

Doctor Pogue directed the construction until he departed Guyana in August 1966 after serving for eleven years and one month.

Even though the hospital building was not quite completed, on September 22, 1966 the transfer began from the Bel Air Hospital to this building and a little more than six months later the building was dedicated.

1967

On April 6, 1967 at 3:30 p.m this hospital was officially opened for operations at its present location, when the management of this institution pledged to dedicate these facilities to the alleviation of the physical, mental and spiritual suffering of the people of Guyana.

1983

Construction on a $20 million dollar facility began in April 1983.

1984

New Hospital in East Statesville Davis Hospital continued to operate from the West End location until 1984.

1987

The county's first psychiatric unit. (1987)

1998

The challenges of medical staffing and current technology in diagnostics have not been evaded by management; however, these have been and are still being addressed within our new affiliation, established in 1998, with Adventist Health International and Loma Linda University.

2007

Reopened wound healing center with two hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, June 2007

2009

Opened new 20-bed ER in September 2009, offering special amenities for enhanced patient comfort and privacy.

2010

Began an interventional cardiac cath program in December 2010.

2011

Expanded behavioral health services in October 2011 with the opening of a 12-bed inpatient unit for geriatric patients.

2014

Vestibular rehab services began in our physical rehab department, September 2014

2016

First in the area to offer online appointments for primary care physicians within Davis Regional Medical Center physicians, December 2016

2017

Formation of Davis Medical Group, a multi-specialty group of physicians and providers, March 2017

2018

Expanded behavioral health services in January 2018 with the opening of a dual diagnosis 14-bed unit designed to care for individuals with mental health and substance abuse diagnoses

Began offering bone density screenings, May 2018.
