Davis Regional Medical Center company history timeline

1920

Davis School of Nursing In May of 1920, the hospital established the School of Nursing with only three ladies in the freshman class.

Davis Hospital, or the “Davis Community Hospital” as you’ll sometimes see it named, was born in 1920 on South Center Street in Statesville, the childhood dream of James Wagner Davis.

Serving the healthcare needs of Iredell and surrounding counties since 1920, Davis Regional Medical Center is a 146-bed acute care hospital with a proud heritage of excellence in patient care.

Beginning in 1920 In 1920, Doctor James Davis realized his boyhood dream with the opening of Carpenter-Davis Hospital.

1925

A Leader in the Medical Community On December 17, 1925, Davis Hospital moved from its South Center Street location to a handsome, new building on West End Avenue.

1955

Unfortunately the largest and most significant addition of a diagnostic clinic was completed in September 1955, just three months after his death.

It expanded many times during his life and was even undergoing a major expansion when he died in 1955.

1980

Despite all the additions to the hospital, the building was beginning to show it’s age, and by the 1980’s, plans were being made to move to a new building.

1984

New Hospital in East Statesville Davis Hospital continued to operate from the West End location until 1984.

1987

The county's first psychiatric unit. (1987)

1989

I’m sure Doctor Davis would never have imagined a future where his noble creation would be used in the production of a movie.In November, 1989 director James Cummins rented the space as a filming location for his horror movie The Boneyard.

2003

They are the ones who gave me permission to enter the building the first couple times in 2003.

2009

Opened new 20-bed ER in September 2009, offering special amenities for enhanced patient comfort and privacy.

2010

Began an interventional cardiac cath program in December 2010.

2011

Expanded behavioral health services in October 2011 with the opening of a 12-bed inpatient unit for geriatric patients.

2014

Vestibular rehab services began in our physical rehab department, September 2014

2016

First in the area to offer online appointments for primary care physicians within Davis Regional Medical Center physicians, December 2016

2017

Formation of Davis Medical Group, a multi-specialty group of physicians and providers, March 2017

2018

Expanded behavioral health services in January 2018 with the opening of a dual diagnosis 14-bed unit designed to care for individuals with mental health and substance abuse diagnoses

Began offering bone density screenings, May 2018.
