Dawson company history timeline

1957

In 1957, the Appalachian Trail was re-routed to a new endpoint about 8 miles north of Amicalola Falls State Park, establishing the county as a major destination for hikers.

1966

Gold dredging continued on a limited scale along the Klondike until operations ceased in 1966, leaving the place to function as a tourist base and local distributing centre.

1967

The annual (August) Discovery Day celebrations extol the past glory of Dawson, which in 1967 was declared a national historic complex and is now part of the Klondike Gold Rush International Historic Park, a cooperative undertaking between Canada and the United States.

1971

The following marker was erected at the Greene county courthouse in Greensboro in 1971, commemorating his life as a Freemason:

1980

In 1980, he started selling cookware in outdoor markets.

1988

Bill Elliott, one of NASCAR's most successful drivers, was born in Dawsonville. "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville" won 44 races on the NASCAR circuit, including two Dayton 500 victories and the 1988 NASCAR Winston Cup championship.
