Focused on healing and growth, our dedicated staff provides treatment in small-group settings, helping children and families overcome obstacles and address traumatic experiences that have impacted their ability to live at home. Through comprehensive care, treatment, and supervision, we equip children and families with the skills needed for a successful transition, either back to their home or to an alternative living arrangement.
The Child Care Therapy Aide establishes effective relationships with children living in residential programs to provide structure and routine and to assist with managing challenging behaviors. They function as part of a team as a teacher of life skills, planning and engaging children in meaningful group activities.
Responsibilities:
Model appropriate behavior and conflict resolution skills
Teach and coach residents in activities of daily living skills
Demonstrate problem solving and conflict resolution skills in both organizational and interpersonal matters
Maintain positive working relationships with program staff and others within agency
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills during interactions with internal and external customers

Your Impact as a Respite Provider (Onsite)
Provide group respite care to individuals with developmental disabilities in a site-based setting. Deliver person-centered support, encourage independence, and promote community participation in the most inclusive settings possible.
Ensures that the individuals supported are provided person centered programming and are encouraged and supported in making their own decisions to the greatest extent possible
Ensures that individuals are offered opportunities to participate in their community to the greatest extent possible and in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs
Provides respite services to families/caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A Direct Support Professional supports people by providing person-centered assistance and training in areas such as, but not limited to: activities of daily living, self-care skills, money management, cooking, and communication.
Reporting Relationship: Reports directly to the Program Manager.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assures peoples overall safety through maintaining safety standards, familiarity with emergency safety procedures and providing regular training to people in these areas.
Intervenes with peoples inappropriate and/or potentially injurious behaviors in the least restrictive manner possible, while maintaining a safe environment for the person.
Documents the provision of services, skill acquisitions and supports daily, contemporaneous and consistent with the Staff Action Plan (if applicable) and Agency procedures.
Assists people with personal monies and shopping needs.
Provides first aid when necessary and addresses routine health care needs.
Prepares or assists people with meal preparation, meal planning and purchasing of food.
Maintains a clean, safe environment by completing housekeeping and minor maintenance tasks and by providing training and assistance to people in these areas.
Provides input to the treatment team in the development of a person-centered plan.
Assists in the assessment of a person's skills and behavior.
Attends regular staff meetings, trainings, supervisory conferences and any other assigned meetings.
Checks agency email regularly, updates supervisor on changes in contact information, maintains communication, completes online training modules in a timely fashion.
Follows the DSP Core Competencies expectations for completing evaluations.

Responsible to immediately notify the Community Programs Manager or on-call supervisor of any problems, which might impact on the safety of the identified person being supported or the provider's ability to perform his/her job duties.
Responsible to review all information pertinent to the care of the person being supported with the Community Programs Manager and parent/guardian prior to provision of service.
Addresses person being supported needs in the areas of medical/health, behavior, and supervision promptly and communicates them fully to the family and supervisor.
Intervenes if the person being supported has inappropriate and/or potentially injurious behaviors, in the least restrictive manner possible, while maintaining a safe environment.
- Multi-media First Aid Certification, and other agency required Relias trainings must be taken as provided by the agency within 90 days of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
High School or equivalent diploma preferred.
In Lieu of High School diploma or equivalent diploma new hires will be required to complete all Arc Erie County New York's training to include, SCIP, First Aid, CPR and Medication Certification.

Staff members should be completing their orientation (40 hrs) and working simultaneously on the RCA Modules on Relias.
Staff members may work on their own after completing their (40 hrs) of orientation and the RCA Competency is completed upon completion of orientation. They can continue working on the Relias modules and post tests while working and must complete them within 21 days from their start date.

Your Impact as In-Home Respite
Provide in-home or community-based relief services to families of individuals with developmental disabilities. Support person-centered care, promote independence, and offer opportunities for community involvement in inclusive settings whenever possible.
The schedule is flexible, you set up your own hours with the family, mostly late afternoon, evening and weekend hours. This is a per diem job and is 3 - 20 hours per week. You choose how little or how much you want to work.
Ensure that individuals are offered person centered programming and are supported in making their own decisions to the greatest extent possible
Ensure that individuals participate in their community to the greatest extent possible in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs
Provides respite services to the families/caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities
Submits all daily/weekly/monthly paperwork by specified deadlines
Achieves minimum caseload and service delivery requirements as directed by the Program Coordinator, Supervisor of Community Services.
Complies with agency Incident Reporting Policies and Procedures
Safely transport individuals receiving services to and from community sites/program locations
When providing Intensive In-Home Respite, accurately records and submits behavioral data in a timely manner to program Behavioral Consultant and participates in additional training as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma required
Minimum of six months combined work, volunteer, internship experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
Valid NYS driver's license

Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
An understanding of child development.
Must clear a full background check and must pass a health screening.

Shift: Monday-Friday, flexible hours between 7:00 am-6:00 pm

Working Conditions: Most buildings cover the following working conditions:
Exposures encountered: many LE3 programs have varying noise levels depending on the day, time of year, and activity. Outside of noise level, most sense exposures are common. There are times in which lessons/crafts require extra hands and supervision due to being messy
Essential physical requirements are not limited to but include walking, running, climbing stairs and playground structures, squatting/sitting on the floor, and standing for a minimum of five hours.
Regularly uses fingers to feel, type, and assist using fine motor skills to tie shoes, zip coats, etc.
Regularly required to communicate verbally and in writing, required to switch communication styles based on audience.
