Job Summary
The Extended Day (School Age) Teacher plays a dynamic role in providing quality child care services in our school-age programs. The Extended Day Teacher is a positive model, and stimulates creative thought processes, provides hands-on experiences, and promotes emotional development for children.
Teamwork is a critical component of the Extended Day Teacher position. Extended Day Teachers regularly meet with their team, other staff and Program Director to develop programs that follow the Wonders Extended Day Curriculum and promote the Wonders philosophy and ideals.
Essential Functions
Actively plan learning activities that are balanced in all areas and include: active/quiet, long/short, group/individual, cognitive/physical, large group/small group and child initiated/teacher directed. Attention is given to the children's ideas and curiosities in influencing the direction of daily activities.
Implement policies, procedures, and practices in an organized and thorough manner.
Actively participate, contribute, and cooperate in team planning sessions with Program Director and team.
Meet with your team to lead planning and implementation of activities that are age-appropriate, process-oriented, and encourage divergent thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, based on Wonders extended day curriculum, philosophy and mission.
Maintain open communication with Program Director regarding children, families, and team members.
Assist in orientating and training new team members for center responsibilities.
Share teaching responsibilities with all team members and provide clear and objective feedback.
Plan and participate in special events for children and families.
Ensure that all spaces used by the program are: physically and emotionally safe / interesting and engaging for children / clean and organized / reflect and support the lives and work of the children present / support children in their understanding of the diversity of our society.
Develop behavior management strategies based on Wonders policy, with team and Program Director.
Establish and nurture partnerships with families.
Communicate with families on a regular basis to: inform them of program curriculum and activities / solicit information about their child's development and family events.
Participate in accreditation and reaccreditation processes for your site.
Attend a minimum of 18 hours of staff training yearly.
Work extended hours on half and full-service days including winter and spring breaks and on early release days.

Qualifications

Coursework must include a minimum of 6 semester or 90 clock hours or the equivalent of approved school-age coursework in child development and curriculum planning.
If no college courses taken for credit, at least 9 clock hours of approved training in communicating with staff, parents and the public.

Position Summary:
Plans and teaches an age-appropriate curriculum for young children, provides a nurturing and therapeutic environment promoting growth and helps parents to understand their child's development.

Conducts parent conferences. Regularly communicates with parents regarding their child's progress. Assists in teaching parenting skills. Provides positive role modeling and nurturance to parents.
Assists the teacher in completing developmental assessments. Completes documents, GOLD observations and progress reports for assigned children. Assists in maintaining the children's files.
Carries out appropriate, positive and consistent discipline using redirection and natural or logical consequences. Validates children's feelings and comforts children who are upset as a result of redirection and consequences at all times.
Attends and participates in all required meetings and training sessions. Helps build a supportive staff and parent team. Follows all recommendations of specialists.
Actively participates in all quality improvement efforts, including, but not limited to, becoming familiar with QI tools such as CLASS and ITERS and following the best practices described by these tools, attending assigned training, completing surveys and other assignments designed to improve program quality, participating in observations by internal observers and outside observers.
This position requires the ability to interact with children on their level while on duty (while seated on the floor or at the table and chairs.)
Conducts home visits with the teacher as per Early Head Start schedule and guidelines.
Education/Experience Required:
CDA in Infants and Toddlers or associate's degree in early childhood required
One to two years' experience in a child development center

The Childcare Specialist ensures that childcare services provided during chaplain-led events under the Building Strong & Ready Teams (BSRT) / Strong Bonds Program meet Army, federal, state, and local requirements. This role identifies and evaluates event sites/venues for childcare suitability, coordinates with childcare vendors, and ensures compliance with protection standards. The Childcare Specialist helps Event Managers and Site Specialists ensure Logistical Support Packages (LSPs) include fully compliant childcare services for event participants.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Childcare Site & Venue Evaluation
Assess potential venues for childcare suitability, including space safety, accessibility, and adherence to occupancy requirements.
Verify facilities meet child protection and fire safety codes for temporary childcare operations.
Ensure childcare spaces are located in secure areas, separate from training rooms but within accessible proximity.
Vendor Coordination & Compliance
Identify and coordinate with licensed childcare providers in CONUS and OCONUS locations.
Ensure vendors comply with Army childcare standards, federal/state/local regulations, and contract requirements.
Validate vendor staff background checks, training certifications, and staffing ratios prior to event execution.
Review vendor proposals and contracts for compliance and cost reasonableness.
On-Site Support
Conduct pre-event inspections of childcare rooms and setups.
Monitor childcare operations during events, ensuring compliance with approved staffing ratios and safety requirements.
Report and document any incidents or non-compliance issues, providing immediate corrective action guidance.
Documentation & Reporting
Provide childcare compliance input for Monthly Execution Reports and Quarterly Close-Out Reports.
Maintain vendor compliance files, including proof of licensing, staff clearances, and incident reports.
Track and report childcare service costs for Receipts of Services (ROS) and invoicing.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
