    Advanced Practice Providers (APP), a nurse practitioner (NP) or a physician assistant (PA), who will be responsible for providing general medical care and treatment of participants enrolled in clinical trials in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences. Position functions as an independent provider primarily coordinating gynecologic and obstetric care in women enrolled in clinical trials. This professional will work with the research staff on protocol review, study activities, and review and follow-up of diagnostic and laboratory tests. Responsibilities Performs physical examinations, protocol procedures (for example endometrial biopsies, cervico vaginal biopsies) and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of a physician. These measures include but are not limited to health maintenance, pelvic exams, PAP smears, education and counseling. Perform an individualized assessment of the research participants. Document physical findings in study source documents and or case report forms. Work with research coordinators and staff to troubleshoot daily study issues, and respond to sponsor queries and deadlines. Some research participants may need to be seen on weekends and or holidays. Prescribes or recommends drugs in accordance with state laws, or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy or related therapeutic procedures. Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Provides diagnosis and treatment of common acute illnesses within prescribed guidelines and instructions of a physician, as well as education, counseling and crisis intervention as they relate to acute care. Records all pertinent patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), study source documents or case report forms. Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan. Submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by the physician. Refers patient to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment. Qualifications Nurse Practitioner's must have MSN and must be a licensed RN by the Virginia Board of Nursing and a certified Nurse Practitioner. Physician Assistant must have an MPA. Must be a licensed Physician Assistant within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Experience as a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant with women's health is preferred, but not required. We are looking for Advanced Practice Providers (APP), a nurse practitioner (NP) or a physician assistant (PA), who will function as a clinical provider in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine. The APP will participate in all aspects of patient care and will participate in the supporting roles of consultant and educator as indicated. The clinical practice will mostly focus on clinical care of patients with Sickle Cell Disease in the hospital and in the outpatient clinic under supervision of clinical faculty. The clinical practice may also include provision of primary care to all types of patients. Responsibilities Independently assess, diagnose, & develop treatment plans for patients with sickle cell disease as well as patients in the area of Primary Care in accordance with protocols and standards of care.
