Duties include: equipment cleaning, reprocessing and distribution, maintaining accurate records of sterilization and biological tests, assembly of case carts for surgery cases as requested on the pick tickets, and delivery of carts to the staging room in surgery. Responsible for complying with an effective hospital wide program for the prevention, and control of infection. This position will collaborate interdepartmentally primarily with Surgery; but, also with the other nursing units.

* Facilitates the processing of instrumentation and equipment, ensuring quality and customer satisfaction. Assist with collecting data for Quality Assurance.
* Reviews operating room schedules, anticipating needs and/or conflicts with instrumentation, coordinating instrumentation for all procedures with operating room personnel.
* Responsible for the daily review of all recording tapes and biological / chemical tests from all sterilizers and records results. Implements hospital policy and procedure for positive biological tests.
* Monitors staff compliance with all required safety precautions.
* Assumes responsibility of department in absence of Manager SPD
* Coaches' staff and rounds with staff consistently.
* Conducts staff meetings/huddles and provides educational opportunities for staff.
* Ensures SPD policies and procedures are kept updated.
* Ensures the competency of all SPD staff and other staff who may be involved in high level disinfection and/or sterilization in other areas. Maintains departmental education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
* Oversees quality and infection control initiatives for SPD.
* Provides a comprehensive and technical orientation, education and training program for the sterile processing staff.
* Assists Manager with managing labor and supply components of the budget.
* Assists Manager in organization functions of the department.
* Assists Manager in conducting annual performance evaluations of SPD staff.
* Assist the Manager with evaluation of the department's service delivery. Recommends and implements process improvements.
* Responsible for all daily operations in the absence of the SPD Manager.
* Develops educational calendar for all in-service training. Provides education and training to SPD staff.
* Demonstrated leadership in directing and maintaining productive and positive behavior among staff.

Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Sterile Processing Tech (SPD) to join our sterile processing team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.
Position Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers.

Required Qualifications:
Central Service/Sterile Processing/or Surgical Technology program certification with hands-on clinical experience

Word Processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills - verbal and written.
The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or must attain one of these certifications within 18 months of hire.
The 18 month deadline will be the set on the same numbered day of the month as the hire date. For hire dates falling on the 31st, the deadline defaults to the last day of the 18th month.
This certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Summary:
Sterile Processing Technician-Non-Certified are multi-skilled personnel who are responsible for all duties related to the decontamination, cleaning and sterilization of general and specialty surgical instruments, power equipment and endoscopes. • Demonstrate working knowledge of sterilization process and techniques involving both steam and chemical means. This includes appropriate documentation, storage and transportation. Must have a thorough understanding of the sterilizer mechanical and chemical indicators, as well as the proper use and interpretation of the biological monitoring system.
• Effectively enters, modifies and searches for relevant information in the instrument tracking system. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical case preparation. Correctly identifies and retrieves pertinent instruments and supplies for scheduled cases or upon request.
• Incorporates infection control guidelines while transferring, storing and transporting sterile packages.
• Interacts with external customers, such as vendors and surgical reps for the processing of loaner trays and receipt of CEU's
• Follows and promotes industry standards and best practices, as supported by AAMI and AORN.
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills while meeting requests of both the operating rooms and external clinics. Must be able the think critically and act quickly to meet the needs of all patients.
• Responsible for aiding in the education and training of fellow associates.
