Utilizing the latest technology, and evidence-based medicine, we have built a skilled and experienced team that is devoted to caring for newborns. We combine family-centered care with expertise and leading-edge treatment to ensure optimal outcomes and emphasize the importance of loved ones in the care of their newborn. Our NICU services include a Developmental Care program, Neonatal Transport team, 24-hour Lactation services, Parent Support program, NicView Web Cam program and a NICU Developmental Follow Up Clinic. The Stepdown unit provides central monitoring services to Gateway Hospital and The Heart Hospital. Our nurses receive training in ACLS, NIHSS, Basic Dysrhythmia, 12 Lead EKG and Stepdown Standards of Care. The Stepdown unit offers a variety of experiences, nurses who are always in a learning/teaching model, and an excited and motivated staff! Unit Description:
The COU is a cardiac-focused department that is utilized for admitting and recovering Cath Lab procedures such as heart catheterizations, structural heart procedures, peripheral vascular angiograms, Cardioversions, Anti-Arrhythmic admissions, ablations, pacemaker / defibrillator implants, loop recorders, EP studies, and CABG surgeries. The GW COU currently provides PACU recoveries for patients that have received anesthesia for procedures such as A-Fib ablations, TAVR procedures, LAAO procedures, and device implants.
The COU is 30 bed unit that operates 24/7/365. The GW COU admits Simple Observation Cardiology patients as well as arrhythmias and rule-out chest pain in addition to all the procedures listed above

The Cardiac Renal Unit is located on the 5th floor at the Gateway Campus. We are a 32 bed unit consisting of private rooms. Our patient population consists of medical/surgical, cardiac, and renal diagnoses patients. We also house the dialysis suite for Gateway. Our varied diagnoses make our unit a great place to learn! We love having students and training new staff. We provide specialty training on dialysis catheters for our nurses. We require ACLS and encourage certifications and continued education. Unit Description:
As a Level II Trauma Center, the Surgical Trauma Cardiovascular ICU (STICU/4800) provides critical care to all general surgical, trauma, cardiothoracic, neuro surgical and general medical ICU patients. The universal concept of the 22-bed unit allows for the ability to scale the patient beds and staffing levels to meet the acuity of the patients.
STICU patient population includes adult and pediatric trauma patients who suffer life threatening or potentially life-threatening traumatic injuries. STICU also specializes in open heart recovery, AAA and carotid artery repair as well as other thoracic and vascular surgeries. Knowledgeable staff are able to perform CRRT and ECMO. All rooms are monitored and eight rooms are equipped to provide hemodialysis at bedside.
