As a Tank Setter, this position provides service, delivery and installation and/or repair to customer's propane tank/s and/or LP piping. The Apprentice Tank Setter works closely with the Pro Tank Setter and Service Technician to provide a safe, speedy, and one and done experience to the customer. Due to the seasonal nature of tank setting, Apprentice Tank Setters may also use the winter months to pursue additional professional certifications or training to branch out into Service Technician or Driver work.
The responsibilities of this position are carried out with particular attention to caring for customer property and working as a trusted advisor. Ultimately, we want The Tank Setter to provide a wonderful customer experience, one that leads our customers to rave about us on social media or to their friends and family.
As an Apprentice Tank Setter this position assists the Pro Tank Setter with safety and efficiency tests, propane tank sets and hook-ups, tank pick-ups and evacuations in accordance with applicable codes, safety regulations and Dead River Company policies.
Eliminates call-backs and reduces liability by ensuring that all work is performed safely and accurately.

Safety considerations relate to safe operation of the service vehicle, wearing appropriate personal protective safety equipment, proper lifting of heavy parts or equipment, and general observation of the surroundings where work is being done. Icy and slippery conditions are a primary concern during winter.
Industry related equipment including all types of hand tools, testing equipment, soldering torches, power tools, evacuation equipment, along with appropriate gauges and meters. Delivery vehicle and hose/nozzle, loading rack, priming equipment, wrenches, safety equipment (glasses, gloves, hard hat, shovel, speedy dry), and chock blocks.
Temperatures may vary from below zero to above 90 degrees, depending on the time of year. Since the job involves working with devices that burn petroleum products, there is some exposure to the product and fumes. The work area ranges from the vehicle to commercial and consumer sites that are occasionally cramped with little headroom.
The position requires frequent driving, standing, walking, and sitting.
There is occasional to frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing.
There is frequent use of the hands/arms to reach, feel, handle, lift or pull.

What you'll do:
Transfer, collect, load, and deliver propane products to and from containers (bulk truck, tanks, and/or cylinders) for customers. Initiate and conduct the asset verification process. Collect customer signatures/stamps and payments for deposit if necessary. Offer customer brochures with basic price lists and a contact number. Maintain a clean and organized vehicle.
Leverage technology where available to: Monitor and track the transfer of propane inventory, tank levels and container sizing; accurately record and print delivery tickets for customers for product delivered; accurately complete and submit daily driver reports where necessary.
Maintain equipment to the highest level of safety standards, reporting any mechanical issues to the Fleet Manager/Dispatcher. Conduct and, if applicable, document pre and post vehicle inspections, site inspections and visual tank inspections.
Collaborate with the Dispatcher frequently for routing and scheduling information. Notify the Dispatcher of any product, customer, routing, scheduling, or safety issues immediately to obtain their guidance and instruction on how to resolve the issue or situation.
Provide Propane tank installations in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with all state/local codes and safety policies. Identify and correct any leaks from the tank to equipment connection. Respond to customer emergencies as needed. Complete tank inspections and repairs at customer locations. Perform tank maintenance on spare tanks in preparation of installation.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Service Department and sets a high standard for safety leadership, customer service and internal growth. The position supervises Service Technicians and Service CSR's facilitating effective communication within the department along with other stakeholders in the district including sales, delivery and other staff. Ensure all service orders, completed tickets, daily logs, and payments collected from customers are turned in daily by service
Ensure all service & installation technicians are provided with appropriate documentation to be left at the customer location, i.e. safety packets
Ensure work assigned to service and installation technicians is completed safely, the service vehicles are kept clean and technicians present neat and clean uniform appearance.
Ensure that all work orders are priced accurately and put through billing in a timely manner
Ensure that all appointments with our customers are kept or otherwise notified of a change in scheduling
Ensure that Service Technicians and Service CSRs are providing customers with excellent customer service
Ensure that related equipment, such as regulators, hoods, bases, etc. are utilized efficiently
Customer satisfaction with regard to service inquiries is achieved
Be receptive to and competently use new technologies

This position requires several years experience or a combination of experience and training to include a thorough knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, air and hydraulic brake systems, vehicle wiring, suspension and other items and systems related to vehicles.
Certification and Testing:
Class A Commercial Driver's License with hazardous materials, air brake, and tank endorsements
CETP training and certification
Brake adjusting license
Mechanics must be able to pass a D.O.T physical
VK Inspections Certificate
State vehicle inspection license
Certification to reseal meters and register
Equipment Used:
Hand tools, air tools, drills, presses and grinders, lifts, jacks, jack stands, tire changing and balancing equipment, various testing equipment, welding equipment and cutting torches
Decisions Made:
The Mechanic makes decisions regarding routine maintenance and parts replacement. Major repairs and associated parts expenditures require the approval of the Operations Manager.
Safety Considerations:
The Mechanic must make vehicle safety a top priority. The Mechanic must have an awareness of the hazards and potential injuries from the various tools used to perform job functions. A knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets relating to all chemicals and petroleum products is required as well as hazardous materials training.
Other Attributes Required:
Must be able to prioritize workloads and distinguish between minor, major and safety-related repairs. The Mechanic must be a team player and work well with others.
Work Environment:
Most of the day is spent inside a repair garage. It is periodically necessary to respond to road service calls in all types of weather. There is frequent contact with petroleum products, fumes, and cleaning solvents. Noise levels are generally moderate but may occasionally reach a very loud level. Work may be under, inside, or on top of vehicles. There is occasionally vibration, a risk of electrical shock, and work near moving mechanical parts.
Physical Requirements Analysis:
The position requires frequent standing. The position also requires some walking and occasional sitting.
There is occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The mechanic will need to climb up onto the truck/tank, crawl under the truck and /or trailer, and be in awkward positions while making repairs.
There is frequent use of the hands/arms to reach, feel, handle, push, or pull.
There is frequent communication involving both speaking and listening.
Weight or Force Moved:
Frequently the mechanic is lifting from 0 to 25 pounds. Occasionally the mechanic must lift weights from 25 pounds to 100 pounds or more.
