Pros of working at Dean College

My direct supervisor is fantastic to work for. They are fair, level-headed, friendly, and hard working. They are excellent at their job and try not to get involved in the psychological warfare that exists at the top level of management.

Cons of working at Dean College

The President and Chief of Staff are cruel and narcissistic. They run the college luck a fiefdom and you are only safe in your job if you remain in their good graces. The current President was the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dean College and appointed himself Interim college President and then permanent President without conducting a search for a qualified President to replace the one the Board fired in May 2024. The President and COS have fired or laid off many people who were good at their jobs but weren't able to thrive in a hostile, turbulent, "if you don't like it here, you can leave". environment. These two individuals enjoy bullying and playing psychological games with the college's employees just to wield their power.

Dean College benefits

The faculty and staff that are not senior administrators as well as the students. They make the administrators who rule with impunity almost tolerable.

What do you like best about Dean College's CEO and the leadership team?

Nothing. They are vindictive and power hungry. They don't consider the long-term best interest of the college in their decision making. They are vengeful and care about nothing except how to expand their power and lash out at detractors.

How would you improve Dean College's culture?

Get rid of the President, the Chief of Staff and the feckless Board of Trustees. They have been mismanaging the leadership team for at least 2 decades and left a tyrannical President in office for more than a decade after she should have retired. They then hired an under-qualified President, who ran the Chancellor out of town because he didn't want to share power with anyone. Two years later, the President was let go and the current team of Tyrants took over. The college is a mess and the Trustees are largely responsible.

How did you prepare for the Dean College interview?

It doesn't matter. I wouldn't recommend anyone apply for a job here until the current leadership team is gone and a qualified and compassionate team takes over and cleans up and deals with the climate of fear that everyone has worked in since 2009.

How does your compensation at Dean College compare to the industry average?

Mid range compensation

What's the diversity at Dean College like?

Not very diverse. Mostly white men in positions of power. Some white women but very few people of color.

What brings you the most joy at Dean College?

My coworkers and students.
