    The Pre-Certification Specialist is responsible for supporting the revenue cycle process by obtaining authorizations and referrals as the referral flows through the pre-certification process and according to the requirements of the insurance payer. Essential Functions * Verifies insurance coverage to ascertain deductible and coinsurance amounts if necessary, obtaining precertification/authorization for office visits, surgeries, MRI's, specialty injections, and other services that are provided under the umbrella of Dean McGee Eye Institute * Supports providers, clinicians and other staff in a seamless process prior to the patient being seen for their service. * Updates insurance policy information in the Epic platform if required. * Completes all referrals and authorizations and other data elements as required by the Epic system flow which in turn generates information to other departments to complete the registration and scheduling activity. * Verify receipt of all necessary pre-authorization documents prior to treatment. * Document and communicate with external departments to resolve issues and ensure accurate financial and demographic information is entered prior to service. * Assist management in development and creation of pre-certification policies and procedures * Maintains effective working relationships with patients, physicians, insurance representatives and other medical support staff. Education Required Bachelors or RN recommended but not required if the person has other pertinent educational degrees or has demonstrated leadership and ASC experience. Experience Required Five (5) years prior healthcare leadership experience is required, ideally in the freestanding ASC environment. Strong financial management experience with a full understanding of industry trends. Excellent communication skills; able to work within all levels of the organization. Competencies/Skills Required * Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong communication skills, and a high emotional intelligence quotient in order to work within all levels of the DMEI organization and external organizations (OUHSC entities, etc), to include physicians. * Must have knowledge of CMS (State Health Department), accreditation standards (AAAHC), and other regulatory agencies; and able to implement requirements and effectively manage noted deficiencies. * Must have background in ASC management (administration preferred, but O.R. management can be reviewed). * Must have the ability to handle multiple responsibilities and accomplish initiatives and tasks. * Must have an understanding of payor and surgeon case mix and be able to optimize case management. * Must be able to give guidance and provide assistance where appropriate to facilities external to DMEI in which DMEI surgeons perform cases. * Must be able to lead and/or participate within various committees, ranging in content from governance, clinical and surgical efforts, revenue-cycle and other financial discourse, day-to-day operations, staffing management, infection control and safety, materials management, and any other topic under administrative umbrella. * Must be familiar with current market trends in the industry and be able to position the organization accordingly.
