Dearborn County Hospital company history timeline

1962

After a 3-2 city council resolution, the "Aurora" was loaned in 1962, to the Cincinnati Fire Museum Association for rebuilding and display in the Cincinnati Fire Museum.

1966

In 1966, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and the Aurora Business and Professional Women’s Club restored the Blue Lick and built a new pavilion.

1976

Ray and Aurora purchased a new 1976 red Eldorado Cadillac and she put over 100,000 miles on it traveling Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan before retiring from the Internal Revenue Service.

1981

The reauthorization of the Older Americans Act in 1981 brought new emphasis on legal aid and program development, and a new program, nursing home ombudsman.

1982

The agency began provision of these services in early 1982.

1983

The state legislature mandated the provision of the nursing home pre-admission screening program, which started in May 1983.

1985

In early 1985, the Council developed a new activity visitor program called HEARTS (Helping Elderly Adults Retain Their Self-Sufficiency). The program was designed to provide one-to-one assistance with a variety of basic needs.

1989

In 1989, three additional hospitals joined Oakwood Healthcare that were formerly part of the Peoples Community Hospital Authority:

1990

In the early 1990's, John Mehrle, then SDHS teacher and later SDHS Associate Principal & Superintendent, discussed the rail bed’s potential as a rails-to-trails project.

And in the 1990's after a hard fought battle at the polls, Argosy Casino located at Lawrenceburg, offering more than a thousand new jobs, and attracting new hotels and other businesses.

1993

Oakwood Hospital - Wayne - Wayne renovated its emergency room services department in 1993.

1994

His office, now the Doctor George Sutton Medical Office Building is located at 315 Third Street. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994 located in the Downtown Aurora Historic District.

1996

Entered into the National Register of Historic Places March 14, 1996, the building at 216 Third Street was built in the Italianate and Romanesque style and designed by Louisville, Kentucky architects McDonald Brothers & Louis Kreite.

1997

Also in 1997, Oakwood Healthcare, Inc., formed a partnership with Michigan Affiliated Providers Company (MAPCo) to provide managed care administration services.

1998

Soon after its 100th anniversary The Peoples Building and Loan changed from a mutual savings and loan charter to a mutual savings bank charter, thus Peoples Federal Savings Bank (PFSB) was born on October 31, 1998.

2002

OHS exceeded all Financial Viability Task Force growth targets set for 2002.

2003

The Oakwood Surgical Pavilion and Heart and Vascular Center open in January on the campus of Oakwood Hospital - Dearborn as part of $200 million dollar renovation project to OH-D started in 2003.

2005

In 2005, the bank was sold to Peoples Community Bank of Lebanon, Ohio.

OHS is one of only 50 companies nationwide to be honored with the AARP’s Best Employers for Workers Over 50 for 2005, placing 22nd.

2006

All four OHS hospitals are recipients of the 2006 Governor's Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Hospital Setting in various clinical areas.

Oakwood Hospital - Dearborn is one of 176 hospitals ranked in United States News & World Report's 17th annual America's Best Hospitals 2006.

2010

A new entrance is also planned.Oakwood earned the grand prize in the video category of the 2010 Ragan Recognition Awards, which showcases the best practices in internal communications.

2011

Construction started in November 2011 on the $2 million addition.

2012

Oakwood Hospital - Taylor won the 2012 Success Story Award for patient satisfaction by Press Ganey Associates.

Heritage was one of only 13 hospitals in the nation to receive a Success Story honor in 2012, and one of only nine to receive it for satisfaction performance.

2013

The year-long project cost about $4 million, and was constructed in four phases and completed in June 2013.

In 2013 two signs were dedicated along the trail crediting the three for its establishment.

Oakwood President & Chief Executive Officer Brian Connolly received the 2013 Meritorious Service Award from the Michigan Health & Hospital Association for his contributions to the advancement of health care in Michigan.

2015

The tradition was carried on by Ray’s second wife, Diane Shirl Schuck until the selling of the Schuck building in 2015.

2017

The rest was paid from the City of Aurora's 2017 Facade Improvement Grant funded through riverboat gaming.
