Key Task 3: Cleans and sanitizes animal rooms and completes reports regarding facility, animal care equipment, and associated animal facility areas. Key Task 4: Maintain equipment used for or during the generation, measurement, or assessment of animal models. Conducts and verifies daily calibration of instrumentation, monitoring equipment, and data collection systems. Cleans, inspects and maintains equipment utilized during medical procedures. ICU and Advanced Veterinary Procedure Responsibilities: Perform ICU and advanced veterinary surgical procedures All forms of anesthesia, euthanasia, assistance in radiographic procedures, Collect blood, conduct health checks, and perform handling/restraint of animals. Key Task 1: Simultaneously operates human clinical anesthesia equipment, associated advanced monitoring devices, and administer Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA). Performs both injectable anesthesia (TIVA) and inhalation anesthesia recovery and provides post-operative care for animals. Recognizes changes in animal clinical condition indicative of complications or an emergency situation and alerts veterinarian and/or research investigator. Key Task 2: Provides instrumentation, surgical procedures, intensive care, and observation during recovery and survival stages. Key Task 3: Accurately calculates drug dosages and administers clinical treatments (topical, oral, subcutaneous, intravenous, intradermal, etc.) to critical and ICU - level animals. Required Skills and Qualifications: Requires either a current certification or license to practice veterinary medicine (in any state) as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)/Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)/Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or have a current certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) from AALAS. Maintain either current state veterinary licensure, certification, or registration to practice veterinary medicine as a skilled Technician or completed the Laboratory Animal Technician certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS). Acceptable titles include - Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT). 3-5 years of experience utilizing human clinical anesthesia equipment (similar to Drager) and infusion pumps (similar to Plum A+ and BD Alaris pumps), associated advanced monitoring devices, and administering Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA). Experience in providing instrumentation, surgical procedures, intensive care, and observation during recovery and survival stages. Ability to accurately calculate drug dosages and administer clinical treatments (topical, oral, subcutaneous, intravenous, intradermal, etc.) to critical and ICU - level animals. Ability to perform both injectable anesthesia (known as TIVA) and inhalation anesthesia recovery and provides post-operative care for animals.
