We've been serving our communities since our early beginnings as Fort Wayne City Hospital in 1878.
DeKalb County Health Department forms in 1924.
Parkview’s original 50-bed hospital was founded in 1958 by five physicians who had a common purpose: to provide quality, compassionate healthcare to the residents of Riverside and surrounding communities.
We’ve come a long way since 1958, when the hospital opened with 50 beds, 120 employees and 60 medical staff.
In 1967, Parkview became a non-profit hospital and gradually expanded to 193 beds.

J. Frederick Agel becomes chair of the Board of Health (1984). Following Doctor Bohan’s death, R. Derril Gay, Ph.D., deputy director, serves as acting director.
In 1989, Paul J. Wiesner, M.D., becomes district health director.
In 1992, DeKalb County residents pass a $29 million bond referendum to improve health facilities.
The DeKalb Community Service Board is created by a 1994 state law to provide the mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services previously offered by the Board of Health.
The Parkview Health system was formed in 1995 and our heritage of care and compassion continues today with nine hospitals and a network of primary care and specialty physicians.
In 1997, the East DeKalb Health Center opens in Lithonia, housing both Board of Health and Community Service Board programs.
In 1998, the North DeKalb Health Center opens in Chamblee, also offering both Board of Health and Community Service Board services.

Our new ER opened in October 2019 and features 18,650 square feet and 28 beds.
In 2019, Parkview joined the AHMC Healthcare family of hospitals.
