RJR Nabisco sold the remaining food processing divisions, known as Del Monte Foods, to private investors in 1989.

In 1992, it still ranked number one in brand preference in several categories and controlled 16 percent of the $3.5 billion canned vegetable market.

1993 A new owner of Del Monte Tropical Fruit changes name to Fresh Del Monte Produce N.V.

Del Monte had agreed to a $1 billion takeover by Grupo Cabal, a group of investors led by Carlos Cabal, in 1994.

Texas Pacific Group, a private investment partnership, had begun a food business shopping spree in 1995, and became known for buying up companies that most analysts regarded as trouble.

1996 also saw the addition of the first new pineapple variety in more than 15 years, the Del Monte Gold® Extra Sweet Pineapple.

1998 Acquired several subsidiaries from its parent company IAT Group Inc. which were engaged primarily in the production, transportation, distribution and marketing of deciduous fruit and other fresh produce worldwide.

Del Monte Foods became a publicly traded company in 1999; its products include canned fruits and vegetables, baby foods, tuna, and pet foods under labels such as Del Monte, Contadina, and StarKist.

Del Monte acquired the worldwide rights to the SunFresh brand, a brand of premium citrus and tropical fruits, in 2000.

2002 Acquired assets of U.K. based Fisher Foods Limited’s chilled division, expanding growth in the fresh cut category.

2003 Acquired Standard Fruit and Vegetable Co., Inc., a Dallas based distributor of fresh fruit and vegetables.

On September 28, 2004, this historic site is officially dedicated as Del Monte Square.

The company sold its Soup and Infant Feeding business in April 2006 to TreeHouse Foods, Inc.

As precautionary measure, in 2007 Del Monte declared a voluntarily recall of several of brands of its pet foods due to the 2007 pet food recalls.

On March 8, 2011, Del Monte was acquired by an investor group led by funds affiliated with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

2013 Acquired agricultural production land, packing houses and farm equipment in Florida and Virginia.

On February 19, 2014, Del Monte Pacific Limited completed the purchase of Del Monte’s consumer food business, for US$1.675 billion.
