The school was founded through a creative partnership between Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Its goal is to educate talented and dedicated young artists to become art makers, problem solvers and visual communicators of the highest caliber who can provide a fresh perspective of the world. The academics offered at the college include a comprehensive associate's of fine arts degree that focuses on studio education in art and design balanced with liberal arts classes so that students develop the skills, concepts and values in their particular area of study. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities as they pursue their degree, from technologically advanced computer imaging and graphics labs to full darkrooms to upscale painting, drawing and design studios. Other resources available include the Toni and Stuart B. Young Gallery, Edgar A. Thronson Library, the Saville housing facilities and Tatiana Copeland Student Center, which features game rooms, lounge areas and study nooks for students in their free time. Merit-based scholarships are available to students who apply by March 15 and demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and potential. Other forms of financial aid include federal and state programs, as well as student loans. The admissions process requires students to complete an application and submit an official high school transcript and artistic portfolio.
