Delaware Valley University company history timeline

1896

Delaware Valley University opened in 1896 as the National Farm School and offered a three-year curriculum teaching "science with practice" on the school's own farm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

1904

The school opened with only two teachers and eight students, but by 1904 enrollment had grown to 45.

1948

In 1948, the National Farm School became the National Agricultural College.

1969

In its early years the school's main private funder was the Federation of Jewish Charities of Philadelphia, but the institution also received funding from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and was open to men from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. It first admitted women in 1969.

1998

In 1998, DelVal entered the field of graduate education with its first Master of Science degree in educational leadership, later followed by two Master of Business Administration degrees, in general business and food and agribusiness.

2010

In 2010, the institution secured a $30 million gift from the Warwick Foundation, the largest in its history.

2011

In 2011, the college dedicated a 398-acre Gemmill Campus in Jamison, Pennsylvania, after a gift from the Gemmill family of land and money in order to further the college's strategic plan.

2014

In December 2014, the Pennsylvania Department of Education approved DelVal’s application to become a university.

2015

On April 8, 2015, DelVal revealed its new logo and celebrated its name change from Delaware Valley College to Delaware Valley University.

2016

On July 1, 2016, Doctor Maria Gallo became DelVal’s 13th (and first female) president.
