Under the general supervision of a qualified dentist, the hygienist is responsible for assessing patient needs to enhance and maintain the periodontal status utilizing established dental hygiene protocols and procedures. This includes the taking of radiographs, medical/dental health assessments, scaling and rooting planning, patient education, preventive clinical services such as sealant and fluoride varnish application, health promotion activities, and the maintenance of an active patient recall system. Hygienist are also the primary educators of the dental team and as such are expected to keep current with oral health trends, be competent in speaking before audiences, and developing educational material for ages 1 year old to adults. Positions are for full time salaried employment, but the expectation is that providers may put in over 40 hours per week performing clinical, program, and recordkeeping functions. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, patient access is a primary consideration influencing individual work schedules and productivity/ patient encounter expectations. Hygienists are expected to function as part of the dental team that enhances the expeditious flow of patients through their appointment while maximizing the workflow efficiency of the dentist. Clinics are open Monday - Saturday, are staffed by multiple dentists, and assignments may include working at multiple locations during the work day. The Center is also a dental residency site and some supervision and mentoring can be expected. Allocation of time between patient care, outreach programs, and dental residency supervision is determined by the Dental Director. An aspect of the outreach program is working at the dental trailer at Kamaile school and the dental mobile van that visits local schools and sites to treat patients. Outreach events occur outside of work hours and the schedule of the hygienist may be modified to attend these events.

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements education and/or experience described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Dental Assistant: Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes assist the dentist during dental procedures, maintain supplies for dental treatment room or assisting with x-ray equipment in a dental office. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in a dental assistant or dental hygiene program that included at least 24 semester hours of courses in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Back Office:
Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments
Process all the paperwork in the Provider's outbox.
Follow up with patients regarding lab results.
Call patients to schedule follow-up appointments as directed by the Provider
Clean and sanitize patient rooms between appointments, and sterilize equipment
Specimen collections and processing
Send medication refills as directed by the Provider
Stock assigned patient rooms daily and as needed to maintain proper inventory
Coordinate referral of services to and from other Health Care Providers
Performs vital signs accurately
Acting as the liaison between a provider and his/her patients and another medical office

In this role, you will:
Perform a vital part of the patient care process by making sure laboratory specimens are appropriately collected (including phlebotomy), processed, prepared, routed, and stored
Recognize when corrective action is needed and implement effective solutions
Work in a laboratory environment with biological hazards and PPE requirements.
Champion safety, compliance, and quality control
All you need is:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to telephones, computers, centrifuges, and audible alarms.
Bonus points if you've got:
1 - 2 years of related experience in clinical laboratory, data entry, or production
Previous training or experience in specimen collection or processing.
