Job DescriptionDescription:
Greet patients in waiting area, assure patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently, escort patients to discharge counter.
Obtain patient history; assess/triage patient, measure vital signs, and record information in the medical record/EMR.
Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination.
Carry out Standing Orders as applicable prior to patient being seen by the provider according to written protocol.
Position instruments and equipment and hand to provider as directed.
Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use.
Administer injections, medications, eye and ear irrigations, dress/bandage wound and incisions, start/monitor IV, draw blood according to written order, and assist provider with any procedures. (per provider orders)
Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, cardiac monitor, oxygen equipment, pulse ox, peak flow and inhalation treatment equipment.
Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood and collect, label and process specimens for reference lab according to physician orders.
Perform both DOT, Non-DOT urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory.
Perform dosage calculations for administering medications.
Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings. (per provider orders)
Where applicable, perform basic x-rays or assist radiology technician with x-ray set-up.
Complete medical record to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
Perform patient call backs, verify DOB, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments.
Ensure all patient and patient related telephone calls are documented in the medical record/EMR.
Restock examination rooms with adequate supplies.
Cleans examination room after patient visit.
Monitor disposable inventory and notifies appropriate persons of supplies and pharmaceuticals needed
Monitor medication expiration dates.
Perform quality checks on medical equipment including CLIA waived controls.
Demonstrate ongoing competency and proficiency in clinical job requirements.
Assist registration staff and perform additional clerical duties as necessary.
Assist with the orientation of new personnel.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
Maintain strictest confidentiality.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
BLS certification preferred.
Experience:
Two year medical assisting experience in Primary Care or an Urgent Care setting preferred.
Knowledge:
Computer systems and applications including Word, Excel and email.

Responsibilities

NextCare Urgent Care is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Medical Assistant that likes the challenge of a fast pace setting and working in a team environment. Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant will be caring for patients in the following capacity:
* Assists provider with exams (including patient vitals), procedures and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision of the Provider and within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant.
* Administers all forms of medications per policy and Provider direction and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.
* Will perform blood draws as per direction of the Provider
* May be responsible for urine collection for various testing to include employer drug screens
* May perform splinting and casting
* Conduct various type physicals such as sports physicals
* Performs other related duties specific to urgent care such as ear lavage, wound care and oxygen administration.
* Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences including medication events on an incident report.
* Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns.
* Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies.
* Must be proficient in EMR/EHR
* Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company policy.
As a Medical Assistant, you may also be asked to support Front Office Reception. When working in the front office you will perform such duties as: keeping patients and families informed of wait times, monitor the flow of patients, process patients for discharge including preparing charges, collecting payment, obtaining all necessary signatures and issuing receipts.

The Medical Assistant supports the organization with customer service and treating all of our patients with respect and dignity. They ensure the clinic and front reception area is running smoothly and patient flow at the optimum, as well as provide patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient.
Essential Education, Experience and Skills:
Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; AND
* Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
OR
* Completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
* American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification; or
* American Medical Technologists (AMT) -- provides the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and certification to individuals who have completed the AMT criteria; or
* National Healthcareer Association (NHA)-administers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and certification
OR
* Completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND was employed as a medical assistant for one (1) year or more after program completion OR must have VERIFIABLE work experience directly supervised by Provider or Physician Group for a minimum of 2000 hours or 1 year.
Other MA education or experience may be considered upon review and approval from our Compliance and Regulatory department
