REQUIRED:
Must be a licensed dental assistant in the state of Minnesota.
Must be able to perform all duties within the scope of practice established by regulations and rules of the State of Minnesota and the Minnesota Board of Dentistry that the dentist(s) delegates. For newly established functions, must complete applicable credentialing or certification requirements in a reasonable period of time after appropriate training is available.
Proven ability to perform as a part of a team composed of dentists, dental hygienists, licensed dental assistants and clerical staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have good visual acuity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands and arms.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time (60 minutes or longer).

POSITION PURPOSE:

Job Description
This position requires the following knowledge and abilities:
Discipline expertise in dental assisting.
Teach courses at a variety of times and/or delivery models such as days, evenings, face-to-face in the classroom, in hybrid formats, and online (synchronous and asynchronous).
Design and teach courses in the approved curriculum using teaching methods that support the success of diverse students.

*Existing faculty would keep their current salary or candidates with higher education levels could be placed higher in the salary range.
Minimum Qualifications
Educational Requirement:
Bachelor's degree and graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program.
Occupational Experience Requirement:
Three (3) full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a dental assistant.
Recency Requirement:
One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
Professional Requirement:
Dental Assistant certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
Current Dental Assistant License from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry.
Preferred Qualification
Experience in or demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and equity-focused working and learning environment.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, teach, and serve in an institution with a culturally, ethnically/racially, economically and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 30 hours per week normally between the hours 7:30 am-4:00 pm with a 30-minute, unpaid lunch break; must be flexible with schedule.
Description of Duties:
Dental assistant services provided shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Perform chair-side dental assistance in the following dental disciplines: operative, prosthetics, endodontics, periodontics, radiology, and oral surgery.
Retrieve and examine relevant sections of patients' records and escort patients to dental treatment room; seat and prepare patient for attending Dental Officer; obtain health history and interview patient regarding any dental issues; take blood pressure and temperature of patient, if indicated.
Assist the Dental Officer in direct patient care: prepare instruments for the indicated procedure(s); preparation and use of dental medicaments and materials; passing of dental instruments to Dental Officer; retraction of tissues; irrigation of oral cavity; operation of dental aspirator; observe patient responses during dental procedure(s); instruct patients on pre- and post-dental treatment; assist in scheduling of dental patients; make necessary entries on dental treatment records (including use of Electronic Medical Record); prepare dental treatment room for the next patient; and assist in the treatment of emergency cases.
Qualifications
Must be a Certified Dental Assistant and have completed a Dental Assistant training program or commensurate experience that led to certification. Shall possess knowledge of dental x-ray equipment and radiation precautions.
Training must include dental radiology and radiology safety.
The Dental Assistant shall be certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience providing Dental Assistant services.
