Role Summary:
The Dental Assistant is primarily responsible for preparing for upcoming appointments by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for the clinic dentist as well as initiating the appointment for incoming patients and performing routine dental cleanings in assistance with the dentist. The Dental Assistant is also responsible for taking and processing x-rays and scans. They assist the dentist during procedures by handing them instruments and anticipating their needs throughout the appointment. The Dental Assistant is responsible for teaching patients and families the importance of dental hygiene and providing recommendations.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Update and maintain electronic and paper patient dental records.
Perform routine dental cleaning and assist the dentist with complex dental procedures.
Take and process X-rays of patients and record other important vital signs.
Advise patients on recommended oral hygiene.
Log clear and accurate chart notes.
Assist with routine maintenance in compliance and general upkeep of the clinic, including cleaning workspaces, sterilizing equipment and performing basic janitorial tasks to ensure a clean and safe work environment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent patient service skills to ensure patients feel comfortable as well as well-informed about treatment and dental wellness.
Strong technical skills in working with a variety of dental and scheduling software's in the office.
Organization skills and well as focus on health and safety of working environment
Knowledge of dental instruments
Prior experience administering dental x-rays
Be self-motivated and provide care that exceeds patients and parents' expectations.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Oregon EFPDA Certification
Current Radiology Certification
Current Sealant Certification
Current BLS Certification
Strict compliance with OSHA, HIPPA, and CDC
Physical Requirements:
Repetitive use of hands to handle and control objects, tools or controls and fingers to grip, move or assemble small objects.
Ability to twist or bend their body for uninterrupted patient appointments.
Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time.

Scheduling & Office Support: Assist in scheduling patient appointments and ensuring the office runs smoothly with minimal disruptions. Keep the dental room clean, organized, and well-stocked.
Regulated Tasks: Perform non-surgical tasks such as coronal polishing, if certified, and assist with other regulated tasks as allowed by local regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of dental assisting experience in a clinical setting.
Certification: Dental Assistant Certification (CDA or RDA) is required. Additional certifications such as EFDA (Expanded Function Dental Assistant) or Radiology Certifications are a plus.
Skills & Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of dental instruments, sterilization methods, and infection control protocols.
Familiarity with dental procedures and treatments.
Understanding of health and safety regulations in a dental office.
Experience with dental practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft) is highly preferred.
Clinical Competence: Ability to perform regulated non-surgical tasks, such as coronal polishing, and assist with other dental procedures.
Communication & Patient Care: Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with patients, providing clear instructions and ensuring their comfort.
