Key Responsibilities
Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
Prepares patient for dental treatment.
Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to the treatment area.
Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies, pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
Fabricates restorations; cleans and polishes removable appliances.
Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification.
Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
Documents dental care services by charting in patient records
Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Ensures operation of dental equipment

Essential Functions
* Assist and anticipate needs of the dentist and anesthesia provider as it relates to instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies per technique, procedure and special requirements.

The Dental Assisting Apprenticeship program provides an opportunity for the Apprentice to have an individualized on-the-job training and learning experience while preparing them with the knowledge and tools necessary for an entry-level dental assistant position within the Dental field. The Dental Assisting Apprenticeship will consist of extensive educational coursework and clinical hours; including patient treatment.
The apprentice's responsibilities include participating in educational coursework (including hands-on and textbook), learning and implementing practical skills, learning and observing all health and safety protocols, completing all assignments, competencies, quizzes and exams with a passing score within the designated time frame. The Apprentice will observe and follow the guidance of the Dental Assistant Trainer.
The Apprentice must display a high level of professionalism, be well-organized, have superb time management skills, be flexible, have basic computer skills, and display communicative interpersonal skills. Most importantly they must be dedicated to learning and providing exceptional patient care.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

12. Competence in the knowledge and skill required to perform a variety of front office duties.
13. Ability to interact with patients, explain procedures, and give post-operative instructions.
