The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) assists in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients by performance of routine and delegated duties per standards and policies. The RDA scrubs for surgical procedures; cleans instruments and rooms; monitors inventory and stocks OR rooms. Works closely with the dentists in the provision of excellent patient care.
Essential Functions
* Assist and anticipate needs of the dentist and anesthesia provider as it relates to instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies per technique, procedure and special requirements.
* Prepare for dental surgical cases by: Picking supplies and equipment for the procedure; Ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available; Maintaining inventory and stock room.
* Familiar with procedures performed.
* Know and understand dentist preferences.
* Provide care based on the age-related needs of the pediatric and adolescent patient, with consideration of their developmental/psychosocial needs, environmental safety, educational needs, communication style, and level of understanding.
* Assist with patient transfer from bed to gurney.
* Decontaminates and maintains all equipment, instruments, supplies and cleans surgical rooms between cases and at the end of the schedule as directed by procedure and the RN assigned to the room.
* Follows the surgery center's manufacturer's, and CDC guidelines for decontamination and sterilization.
* Takes x-rays.
* Clean and check x-ray equipment.
* Mixes cement and other materials as required.
* Handles suction hand-pieces and air/water syringes.
* Assures delivery of all specimens to the RN Circulator in the room.
* Stocks and cleans rooms between cases and at the end of schedule.
* Assists with turnover of the OR.
* Assists as directed in the delivery of emergency care.
* Front Desk duties will be part of this position as well as a Patient Service Coordinator.
Position Requirements
* High School Graduate or Equivalent;
* Completion of an Accredited Dental Assistant Program;
* Current state license to practice as a registered dental assistant;
* One year of RDA experience;
* Current BLS Certificate
* Background and Drug Screening Required

Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a department, networking, professional development, and building long lasting connections with other interns, mentors, and Sarasota County team members.
Department Responsibilities:
Support library staff with organizing, shelving, and displaying materials.
Assist library users with general questions regarding library materials, services, and technology.
Use a variety of technologies, including makerspace equipment, research databases, and the integrated library system (catalog).
Assist library staff with program/event planning and implementation.
Create displays and exhibits that promote library materials and services.
Implement special events and programs for children and/or adults.
Assist Friends of the Library with bookstore operations.
Interact with support organizations, including Friends of the Library, and understand how partners assist with fundraising and advocating for the library.
Collaborate with your department colleagues to make and influence real changes.
Internship Program Responsibilities:
A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.

About You
Minimum Qualifications:
Ages 16-17 with parental consent, or 18 and above.
Eligible to work in the United States - we love local, national, and international students!
Active, enrolled student.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.
About Everything Else
Program Dates: The 2026 internship program will begin on
May 18, 2026
and end on August 7, 2026
.
Internship Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings, weekends and holiday work may be required. Normal hours are weekdays.
Pay Range: $15 per hour (high school student) up to $20 per hour (Grad/Masters student), based on your credit hours earned.
