Review patient medical history
Take blood pressure and pulse
Work closely with the infection control officer to maintain infection control protocol

Ensure patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
Ensure patient received written instructions for care following dental surgery or other dental treatment procedures
Apply topical drugs prescribed by a dentist

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Performs chair side assistance in all phases of dentistry, which encompasses all routine dental procedures. Use the concepts of four-handed dentistry to assist with intraoral surgical procedure, extractions, periodontics, endodontic, and implants.
· Maintain field of operation during dental procedures though the use of retraction, suction, irrigation, drying, etc.
· Maintains the dental clinic in a clean and orderly manner including documenting weekly, monthly, yearly scheduled maintenance. Monitor and maintain emergency kit and nitrous oxide / oxygen supply.
· Receives and routes patients and schedules appointments.
· Chart and record treatment notes in Electronic Dental Record program (Dentrix).
· Responsible for cleaning, sharpening, packaging and sterilizing all dental instruments for proper storage.
· Prepares patient and operatory for proper procedures including proper instrument set-ups.
· Operates dental x-ray equipment to take intra and extra-oral radiographs. Correctly positions patients and film to achieve high quality x-rays.
· Performs routine dental laboratory procedures, including pouring and trimming models, and constructing custom impression trays, fabricating base plates and bite rims. Assure lab cases are sent to lab correctly and on time. Helps make sure laboratory and clinic is clean and well supplied.
· Relays to patient post treatment instructions as well as motivating and instructing patients in proper oral hygiene and preventive health measures.
· Take, record, and monitor vital signs.
· Apply pit and fissure sealants, topical fluoride.
· Complete child cleanings and coronal polishing.
· Provides periodontal therapy, prophylaxis, and fluoride treatments as directed by the dentist.
· Places rubber dams isolation as directed by the dentist.
· Place retraction cord, fabricate and remove temporary crowns.
· Recognize and respond to basic medical and dental emergencies.
· Follows Blood Borne Pathogen safety precautions during procedures and while cleaning the operatory after procedures. Demonstrate understanding of CDC and prevention guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
Taking digital x-rays with the use of snap-a-ray sensor holders
Review patient medical history
Take blood pressure and pulse
Work closely with the infection control officer to maintain infection control protocol
Preparing and sterilizing instruments and dental equipment
Ensure patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
Ensure patient received written instructions for care following dental surgery or other dental treatment procedures
Apply topical drugs prescribed by a dentist
Take impressions or a digital scan of patients' teeth for study casts
Communicating with the dentist and patient to schedule follow up appointments
Place or remove celluloid, plastic or metallic strips between teeth for subsequence placement or filling by the dentist
Place or remove rubber dam under supervision of a dentist
Provide suction/evacuation function
Assist with maintaining patient charts, clinic progress notes, and NSO clinic records

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must effectively communicate in English orally and in writing.
Must possess a valid dental assisting permit from the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry
Must have X-ray certification
Nitrous certification preferred
Coronal polishing and Fluoride application certification preferred
Sealant application certification preferred
Must possess a valid Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
Experience working with the homeless and underserved population preferred.
Clearance of background check and drug screen. This is a Safety Sensitive Position and therefore is not subject to the protections of the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act.

Assist the orthodontist during all phases of treatment (e.g. placing brackets and bands, tying wires, removing appliances)
Prepare teeth for bracket placement (etching, bonding, cleaning)
Secure and adjust orthodontic wires, springs, ligatures, elastics, and other components
Assist with taking impressions, digital scans, and intraoral photographs
Take and process X-rays or cephalometric / panoramic images (if allowed by state law)
Remove excess cement from appliances, polish and clean teeth as needed
Maintain a sterile environment: sterilize instruments, set up trays, handle infection control procedures
Manage instrument inventory, check supplies, reorder as necessary
