Responsibilities
* Greet and assist patients with check-ins and check-outs; escort patients to exam rooms, gather health history, and take vitals.
* Schedule appointments, take phone messages, and handle insurance paperwork.
* Prepare patient charts and obtain necessary records for appointments.
* Prepare and sterilize treatment rooms, ensuring all necessary instruments are in place.
* Assist the dentist in procedures.
* Educate patients on oral hygiene and the importance of dental care.
* Ensure compliance with HRSA, Joint Commission, and other accrediting bodies.
Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED required.
* Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification, preferred.
* At least one year of clinical dental assisting experience is preferred, with exposure to general dentistry and working with patients of all ages.
* Basic computer literacy, including electronic dental records and digital x-rays. Excellent communication, organizational skills, and a friendly demeanor are essential.
* Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists the dentist and hygienists in chair-side procedures routinely done in a general and pediatric dental practice.
Responsible for preparation and setting up of instruments, materials, and equipment necessary for each procedure.
Responsible for the sterilization of instruments, and the cleaning and routine maintenance of equipment and work areas.
Occasionally schedules patients, and accurately records information in patient records. Acts as back up support to the dental patient services representative.
Exhibits positive leadership skills, actively striving to improve the patient and staff experience of Promise Healthcare, as well as strong communication skills, including willingness to grow and develop skills in motivational interviewing.
Assist in processing encounters.
Identify related medical and/or social problems,
Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies and materials as well as maintaining thorough and accurate documentation of inventory.
Assists with the training of new Dental Assistants.
Hospital Responsibilities (If applicable)
Assist the Dentist in dental surgical procedures.
Review pre-operative and post-operative instructions with guardian.
Document treatment and other notes in EDR.
Responsible for the preparation and set up of the Operating Room.
Maintain knowledge of supplies and inventory in the Dental Cart and storage room.
Maintain knowledge and understanding of consent forms regarding surgical procedures. Review with patient and guardian as needed.
Adhere to PPE operating room requirements.
Comply with [CHC] employee policies and procedures including, but not limited to (privileging and credentialing, handling equipment, sterilization, etc...).
Adhere to PHC Radiation and Safety procedure. Follow correct operating procedure for NOMAD.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a safe work environment by remaining informed of and compliant with the clinic's safety policies, and in particular by application of safe practices in area of own responsibility.
Compliance:
Knowledgeable of and compliant with laws and regulations governing area of responsibility.
Responsible for reporting any potentially non-compliant conduct.
Cooperate fully with our Compliance Officer in upholding our Compliance Plan
Perform other duties and responsibilities, as required. Will be crossed trained to other medical clinical duties to support the full integration of oral health.

Excellent interpersonal and administrative management experience
Must have working knowledge of the operations and administration of an FQHC dental clinic including: patient care protocols, quality control regulations, policies, procedures billing and insurances, inventory control, etc.
Excellent interpersonal, communications and organizational skills to relate effectively with the dental department and other health center staff.
Must acquire nitrous certification within the first 6-9 months of employment
Physical Demands
Moderate physical exertion including frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching and carrying moderately heavy loads (up to 25 lbs.)
Work Environment
Risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
+ Prepare the office to receive patients prior to opening daily
+ Provide responsive, high-quality service to patients

+ Consistently record information on the treatment router and patient history forms as instructed by the treating dentist

+ Upon direction and supervision of the treating dentist, and within legal guidelines of expanded duties, assist dentist with adjustments on dentures and denture insertions

+ Assist treating dentist with surgery
+ Take and develop x-rays as needed (has certification, where certification is required)
+ Consistently sterilize instruments with minimal direction, including impression trays and hand piece burs and wipes down equipment after each patient
+ Escort each patient to the check out area, with appropriate paperwork
+ Maintain clean work area at all times; participate in daily cleaning duties, including vacuuming and emptying of waste receptacles, cleaning operatories and instruments
+ Inventory and re-order supplies as instructed
+ Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
+ Minimal travel may be required for training and/or continuing education purposes

**Educational Requirements:**
+ Must possess an active DA and X-ray certification
