Position Summary
BCForward is seeking a Dental Assistant 1 to support the Periodontal Department at a leading School of Dental Medicine. Under general supervision, you will assist faculty and residents with clinical and surgical procedures while ensuring proper handling of instruments, equipment, and patient needs. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, reliable, and passionate about supporting dental education environments.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Prepare and supply sterilized instruments and equipment to residents. (25%)
Provide chair-side assistance to faculty, residents, and hygienists. (15%)
Dispense dental supplies and equipment to support efficient treatment. (15%)
Monitor inventory and prepare requisitions for supplies. (6%)
Prepare clinic for daily operations: clean cubicles, stock supplies, refresh sterile water. (10%)
Nonessential Functions
Verify patient payments for procedures and specialty items. (5%)
Track and follow up on insurance pre-treatment estimates. (5%)
Inspect equipment functionality and coordinate repairs. (5%)
Review patient records for accuracy; report deficiencies. (5%)

POSITION OBJECTIVE
This position assists the Lead Dental Assistant 2 in the coordination of all operational aspects in the department of Endodontics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Provides chair-side dental assistance for Faculty and Residents, reviewing patient schedules to ensure efficient use of staff time. Assists doctors with communication between patients and parents regarding appointments, oral hygiene, and treatment processes. Maintains treatment charts for patients undergoing active Endodontic treatment and assists with taking digital x-rays as needed. (75%)
* Assists the Lead Dental Assistant 2 with sterilization by collecting contaminated instruments from cubicles, wrapping departmental and resident items, and submitting them for autoclaving in central sterilization. Maintains clinical areas in accordance with OSHA regulations and ensures cleanliness within clinical and laboratory spaces, including cleaning between patients. (7%)
* Prepares clinic supplies for the daily schedule, turns off equipment, and secures the area at the end of the clinic day. Checks equipment to ensure it is in good working order, reports and records repair needs, and contacts appropriate service vendors or Dental School staff for resolution. (7%)

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including lab coat, gloves and googles, may be required and provided to limit exposure to hazards. Potential safety hazards exist if explosive agents are used or where oxygen is used under unsafe conditions. Unusual stress may exist when general anesthesia is administered or when emergency situations arise with patients.

SCOPE OF ROLE
Reporting to the Director, Dental, the Dental Assistant provides quality care and services to patients by assisting dentists and other staff in a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties.
