Greeting patients upon arrival
Maintains a daily list of all scheduled assigned dentist's patients, monitors patient flow, and assists the dentist(s) in ensuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and filed.

Performs independent procedures as delegated by the dentist, such as taking alginate impressions, fabricating temporary crowns, applying dental sealants, and performing coronal polishing in accordance with state regulations, laws, and Department protocols.
Take vital signs and accurate record medical history.

CHAIR-SIDE DUTIES UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Apply topical fluoride when operating in a school-based setting or public health program.
Operate radiographic equipment.
Perform intraoral/extraoral photography.
EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED certificate required.

· Prepare patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting seating, and draping patient.

· Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth as allowed under state and federal rules and regulations.
· Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
· Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
· Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirement; call for repairs, when necessary.
· Maintain inventory of dental supplies and order supplies as needed.
· Participate in all safety/compliance programs.
· Promote patient satisfaction principles and foster an excellent environment for the patient and their family.
· Cross- training with front office tasks like checking in patients, scheduling appointment, checking insurance.
· Mouth-mirror inspections of the oral cavity, to include charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth.
· Apply and activate bleaching agents using a non-laser light-curing device.
· Use of automated caries detection devices and materials and recording of such findings before placement of pit and fissure sealants.
· Obtain intraoral images for computer-aided design (CAD)
· Pulp vitality testing and recording of findings.
· Place bases, liners, etch, and bonding agents for restorative procedures.
· Chemically prepare teeth for bonding for restorative procedures.
· Place, adjust, and finish direct provisional restorations.
· Size stainless steel crowns, temporary crowns, and bands.
· Fabrication of temporary crowns intra-orally.
· Remove excess cement with an ultrasonic scaler from supragingival surfaces of teeth undergoing orthodontic treatment.
· Application of pit and fissure sealants.
· Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required education, experience and/or training:
· Successfully complete Board-approved courses in radiation safety.
· Current and active RDA license from the Dental Board of California.
· Successfully complete and show proof of a Board-approved course in Dental Practice Act, an eight (8) hour Board-approved course in infection control and proof of basic life support (CPR) card.
· Submit fingerprint clearances from both the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations.
· Require knowledge of dental/office equipment, and dental/medical terminology.
· 2 years minimum experience as a dental assistant (preferred).
· Must be able to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and written.
· Ability to work with diverse populations.
· Treat all patients and colleagues with dignity and respect.
