JOB SUMMARY
The Dental Assistant performs clinical and sterilization duties according to OSHA standards to support dental providers in the delivery of services to the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Greets patients and visitors.
Verifies chart accuracy and records treatment information in patient records.
Takes and records medical and dental histories and sometimes vital signs of patients.
Assists the dentist in all dental procedures.
Takes x-rays and impressions under supervision of a dentist.
Tracks all dental laboratory cases (sends out and verifies return).
Orders and stocks supplies and stocks rooms as needed.
Monitors dosimeter badges (radiation).
Maintains infection controls.
Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist.
Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
Reviews daily schedule and sets up trays accordingly.
Sets up operatories.
Cleans and maintains equipment and instruments.
Conducts spore test on autoclave.
Cross trains for receptionist.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Must register with the Office of Professional Regulations within 30 days of hire; current CPR Certification; obtain X-ray certification after 6 months of employment; High school diploma.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sets up and prepares for procedures, laying out appropriate materials; taking & developing x-rays as needed; reviews and completes patient charts; enters charges on the QSI system.
Assesses dental condition and needs of patient; uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and charge entries.
Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned either with the dentist or at the direction of the dentist, using established dental procedures; performs routine treatment procedures, including x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides, taking impressions, pouring models, and related procedures.
Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow-up on results.
Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.
Greets and seats patient, establishing rapport and putting the patient at ease. Dismisses patient following treatment.
Provides exceptional customer service for external and internal customers including our patients and families, business associates, Timberlane staff, etc. Demonstrates integrity, compassion, and respect when working with patients, families and staff members.

Protects the privacy and confidentiality of patients, families, staff and Timberlane Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics proprietary business and financial information.
