Specific Responsibilities:
This is a Dental Assistant position based in the Northeast Health Center Dental facility, a multi-faceted dental care program. Seats and drapes patients, exposes digital dental radiographs when State certified. Sets up dental instruments and ensures that all equipment is in proper working condition. Maintains infection control by cleaning and disinfecting operatory before each patient; sterilizes and disinfects all instruments between patients, or as appropriate. Assists dentist in the chairside care of dental patients including but not limited to:
* Aspiration of oral cavity
* Adjustment of equipment and light source
* Spraying of air and water in the oral cavity
* Mixing dental materials and cements
* Handing and receiving dental instruments
* Performs all expanded duties permitted by State Law
* Provides post-operative and oral hygiene instructions
* Other related chairside duties as directed
Maintains patient dental records according to department policy and by utilizing the Eaglesoft electronic oral health record for charting, x-ray exposure and data entry. Accurately completes all required patient charting. Implements and practices all infection control and OSHA standards according to established department policies and protocols.
Reviews patient medical information. Maintains current knowledge of techniques and procedures. Maintains appropriate supply inventory as directed by the Dental Assistant Supervisor. Maintains logs related to drug inventory and equipment testing or maintenance as directed by the Dental Assistant Supervisor. Assists and serves as the back-up for billing and data entry into HMS, scheduling and other front-line duties.
Conforms to the Professional Appearance and Demeanor Guidelines for the CHD clinical staff. including temporary assignments to other sites. Assist in the prevention program, utilizing skills in tooth polishing, topical fluoride application, and oral hygiene instructions in accordance with department policy and State Law as needed.

Prepares patient's chart for the health care visit 1-2 days before. Including reviewing/recording past medical history, reason for visit/chief complaint, etc.
Directs and/or accompanies patients to the examining room.
Arranges/maintains examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment organized and stocked.
Records patient examination, treatment, and test results.
Assists health care providers during examinations.
Performs full clinical intake/triage during patient's visit - including recording vital signs, social history, family history, etc. in EMR.
Performs basic laboratory tests on the premises as needed.
Responsible for assisting in processing of all specimens in accordance with established protocols.
Authorizes drug refills as directed, telephones prescriptions to pharmacies.
Follows clinic workflow and provides feedback for adjustments to workflow as needed.
Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment.
Follows, and enforces standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations.
Maintains patient care information confidential.
Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, OR six months to one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
CMA (AAMA) Certified.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (preferred)
Computer skills required: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with EHR software strongly preferred.
Other skills required:
Phlebotomy and basic laboratory skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner at all times.

The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) assists in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients by performance of routine and delegated duties per standards and policies. The RDA scrubs for surgical procedures; cleans instruments and rooms; monitors inventory and stocks OR rooms. Works closely with the dentists in the provision of excellent patient care.
Essential Functions
* Assist and anticipate needs of the dentist and anesthesia provider as it relates to instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies per technique, procedure and special requirements.
* Prepare for dental surgical cases by: Picking supplies and equipment for the procedure; Ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available; Maintaining inventory and stock room.
* Familiar with procedures performed.
* Know and understand dentist preferences.
* Provide care based on the age-related needs of the pediatric and adolescent patient, with consideration of their developmental/psychosocial needs, environmental safety, educational needs, communication style, and level of understanding.
* Assist with patient transfer from bed to gurney.
* Decontaminates and maintains all equipment, instruments, supplies and cleans surgical rooms between cases and at the end of the schedule as directed by procedure and the RN assigned to the room.
* Follows the surgery center's manufacturer's, and CDC guidelines for decontamination and sterilization.
* Takes x-rays.
* Clean and check x-ray equipment.
* Mixes cement and other materials as required.
* Handles suction hand-pieces and air/water syringes.
* Assures delivery of all specimens to the RN Circulator in the room.
* Stocks and cleans rooms between cases and at the end of schedule.
* Assists with turnover of the OR.
* Assists as directed in the delivery of emergency care.
* Front Desk duties will be part of this position as well as a Patient Service Coordinator.
Position Requirements
* High School Graduate or Equivalent;
* Completion of an Accredited Dental Assistant Program;
* Current state license to practice as a registered dental assistant;
* One year of RDA experience;
* Current BLS Certificate
* Background and Drug Screening Required
