As a Medical Assistant at PHC you will support the delivery of healthcare by providing clinical care and administrative support as delegated by licensed clinical staff. You will work in accordance with standard and scope established by PHC policies and procedures and will performs work with special consideration for patient safety and infection control policies and procedures. This position typically works at PHC in Marshalltown 4 days per week and in Ames 1 day per week. What You Will Do * Collaborates with assigned Patient Care Team and others to provide needed healthcare to patients in a clinic setting. Performs assigned workflows efficiently and effectively. * Prepares for exam/procedure and assists provider as requested. Facilitates the patient rooming and intake process and obtains accurate patient vital signs per established workflow. * Documents patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record. Completes timely prior authorizations and referrals per established guidelines. * Performs point-of-care testing per CLIA guidelines and other established workflows. Ensures service orders are completed timely. Administers medications, immunizations, and treatments per written or standing orders. * Provides patient education appropriate to the patient's age and identified learning needs. * Completes and accurately documents quality controls per established process. Performs pre-cleaning and transport of contaminated instruments per infection control policies and procedures. Routinely evaluates supply levels in exam rooms, removing expired supplies and restocking as appropriate. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications You Need Required * High school diploma or equivalent. * One year of experience in a medical assistant, patient care technician, certified nurse assistant, phlebotomy, or related clinical position or completion of medical assisting program from an accredited institution. * Excellent customer service skills. * Effective verbal and written communication skills. * Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills with ability for a team approach to care plus develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals. * Organization and priority skills with detail orientation. * Professional skills with ability to remain composed in all situations and show empathy. * Basic computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and electronic health record system. * Effective problem-solving skills. * Licenses & Certifications: Current Basic Life Support for HealthCare Providers*; current Mandatory Reporter approved for the State of Iowa*. * Must be obtained with Introductory Period if not current.
