What You'll Do
Deliver comprehensive preventive and periodontal care - including prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing (SRP), gingivitis scaling, oral cancer screenings, Itero scans, sealants, Zoom whitening, Perio Protect, Curodont, fluoride treatments, and patient education - all in alignment with evidence-based clinical guidelines
Provide leadership and mentorship to hygienists and hygiene assistants, setting expectations, coaching performance, and ensuring adherence to Tend's clinical standards
Collaborate with dental assistants to optimize studio-wide hygiene flow, sterilization protocols, and room turnover efficiency
Partner with dentists on exams and treatment planning, reinforcing comprehensive care and seamless handoffs for patients
Proactively drive hygiene production across the team by identifying opportunities, supporting same-day treatment acceptance, and monitoring key metrics
Lead regular hygiene team meetings, provide feedback, and champion CE opportunities and professional development for the hygiene team
Partner closely with studio managers and doctors to ensure the hygiene department is meeting patient care, quality, and business objectives

What You Have
Degree from an accredited dental hygiene program
Current, active hygiene license in the state you're applying for
Current Anesthesia/Nitrous license in applicable state

Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances.

May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary.

The SBH Health Systems Dental Department, Oral Surgery Section is seeking candidates for a part-time, 3-day a week, position as an oral surgery attending. The oral surgery section operates at a clinic site in Bronx, NY and provides care to a large pool of underserved patients with diverse needs and backgrounds.
Our department provides general practice, dental anesthesia, pediatric, orthodontic and oral surgery services.
The scope of oral surgery care involves both interceptive and comprehensive care, child and adult treatment, using a large variety of techniques. As an educational site, we accept residents for each service we provide including 3 fellow oral surgery residents every year, quarterly, from Brooklyn Hospital.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promote a safe, cooperative and professional health care environment to ensure optimum patient care (as per HR Policy 113c).
2. Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations, including but not limited to, absenteeism, ETIME, cellular telephone usage, dress code and rules of conduct.
3. Makes Customer Service a priority, treating customers (patients, visitors, and co-workers) in a professional manner exercising courtesy and tact. Effectively communicates with patients and others about SBH services in their area(s) of expertise or responsibility and ensures that concerns, questions or issues reach the right person(s) in SBH in a timely fashion.
4 Knowledgeable about Department policies and protocols, so as to be able to convey that information to the residents.
5 Responsible for a timely, comprehensive review and signing of charts of all residents s/he worked with.
6. Provide clinical supervision of residents in Pediatric, General Practice, Orthodontic, Oral Surgery and Dental Anesthesia Residency Programs as defined by the attendings areas of expertise. Provider should be trained on the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery including, IV Sedation, dento-alveolar surgery, maxillofacial trauma, orthognathic surgery, implant planning & placement, TMJ surgery and major laceration repair.
7. Provide dental lectures to Pediatric, General Practice, Orthodontic, Oral Surgery and Dental Anesthesia Residents as defined by attendings area of expertise.
8. To be available to mentor residents in QI and research projects.
9. To follow all hospital directives, including but not limited to maintaining an up-to-date Healthstream, MED IQ and OHS file, and attendance at Department Staff meetings.
10. Willing to participate in Hospital Committees.
11. Hospital on call monthly, shared with other Oral Surgery Attendings in the department.
12. Participation in faculty development.
The 3-day part time position is eligible for pro-rated benefits (health insurance, dental insurance, Flex spending account, malpractice insurance, vacation and sick leave). Any position of less than 3 days/week is on a per diem basis with no benefits other than those required by NY state law.
